Here’s the Memo That Blew Up the NSC

Trump Jr., at that time in the glare of media scrutiny around his meeting with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower during the presidential campaign, gave the memo to his father, who gushed over it, according to sources.

In a comedy of errors, Trump later learned from Sean Hannity, the Fox News host and close friend of the president, that the memo’s author had been fired. Trump was “furious,” the senior administration official said. “He is still furious.”

CONCLUSION.
The recent turn of events give rise to the observation that the defense of President Trump is the defense of America. In the same way President Lincoln was surrounded by political opposition both inside and outside of his wire, in both overt and covert forms, so too is President Trump. Had Lincoln failed, so too would have the Republic. The administration has been maneuvered into a constant backpedal by relentless political warfare attacks structured to force him to assume a reactive posture that assures inadequate responses. The president can either drive or be driven by events; it's time for him to drive them.

Time for Republicans to Leap From the Boat--DAVID FRUM

[President Trump is attacking the Senate for his own failures—and after Charlottesville, senators may realize the damage they’re inflicting on their own party by standing by him.]

"Trump now stands not between the parties, or above the parties, but beyond the parties—in some strange political twilight zone where neo-Nazis are seen as a constituency not to be insulted. As events shift Trump to that bizarre place, even his one authentic achievement as president—the steep reduction in illegal immigration—risks becoming an anti-achievement. Trump and his white-nationalist advisers seem determined to corroborate their critics’ accusation that enforcement is concerned not with protecting the wages and working conditions of legal residents of the United States—part of a pro-worker agenda that also could include a big investment in construction, trust-busting of college tuition, and a defense of existing social-insurance programs —but instead as a component of a white-nationalist agenda that also includes attacks on minority voting rights, a rollback of affirmative action, and compliments to authoritarian leaders worldwide."

Trump transcripts

I was disgusted by the recently released transcripts of President Trump’s post-election phone calls with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. They should make any decent human being sick. Nobody could read them and not feel like they need a bath, immediately.

Trump reveals in these transcripts that every criticism of him is true. “Build the wall” was a cold, calculated political promise he never intended to fulfill. And he’s a bigot who doesn’t know the difference between an illegal immigrant, a terrorist and a refugee. All that matters is that they’re foreign.

Even after Turnbull patiently corrected him, Trump couldn’t understand the difference between a refugee camp and a prison. He also couldn’t get the number of Australian refugees we agreed to take in right. It’s a number, for goodness sake. It’s not a matter of opinion. This president is ignorance defined.

He also told Nieto that New Hampshire was a “drug infested den.” That’s as bad as his calling the White House a dump, which also came to light recently. This man has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Forget Russia. The investigation we need right now is into how the American people have become so ignorant that they would believe a word a lying egomaniac like this says. That’s our biggest problem as a nation and it needs to be fixed — fast.
