“With this data you can target neighborhoods, individuals, people of all sorts of persuasions,” said Vickery in an interview. “I could give you the home address of every person the RNC believes voted for Trump.”

The RNC did not provide immediate comment. In a statement, Deep Root founder Alex Lundry told Gizmodo, “We take full responsibility for this situation.” He said the data included proprietary information as well as publicly available voter data provided by state government officials.

12 days is a long time to leave 200 million people's data unsecured.

My first thought is if it was left available on purpose for some outside entity to access.

if it's not an op/ed, Moonz doesn't bother

The Russians already have this data. They were able to get a yearly refresh though.

Jokes aside, I bet this was a mistake but it isn't a good look with the still smoldering accusations of foreign powers meddling in our elections. I'd imagine the Chinese, North Koreans, Israelis, and Russians were able to download the database during the period it was unsecured. I'll be interested to see if they come out and tell us how many times it was downloaded.
