Has anyone else been playing it? It's quickly becoming the most popular poker game among the pros and even was the cause of Gus Hansen missing the beginning of the WSOP due to crazy side-table action.

Basic rules here: http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/14256-how-to-play-open-face-chinese-poker

It's been big for awhile and addictive as hell. My friends and I would play it almost daily (back in '07), although we referred to it as "Ching Chong Pong" setting racial relations back about a hundred years.

This is probably the most unsurprising palma post ever.

Never heard of it, but it sounds fun.

After the first five are dealt and placed, are you dealt a card and then you decide where to place it?

I was a little confused about that part.

First need to understand Chinese poker. Make a 5 card poker hand at the bottom, 5 card poker hand in the middle, and 3 card hand at the top. Bottom hand must beat the middle which beats the top. If not, you foul and can't win any points.

For OFC, 5 cards are dealt to each player. Left of the dealer places those 5 cards wherever they choose and each person follows. Once a card is placed, it cannot be moved. You then take turns with each player receiving one card and placing it in order until each person has received 13 cards.

Scoring is pretty tricky but you get points for beating your opponent, points for royalties for good hands, and you get penalized if you foul.

It's missing a story about a random celebrity, NBA player, or hot Asian chick.

Mr Burns: "Use an open-faced club! A sand wedge!"
Homer: "mmmmmm....Open-faced club sandwichhhh"

several people where playing it at the WSOP cash games last weekend in vegas.

Yea I understood the method and object, just wanted clarification on whether the cards were dealt one at a time after the first five...but I've figured it out.

The scoring does seem a bit tricky.

If you play more than 2 people does each person compare their hand to the others?...like Player A vs Player B, Player B vs Player C and Player A vs Player C?

How are points awarded in that case?...is it net points? and do you only get royalty bonuses if you win 2 of 3 hands?

Royalties occur as long as you have a legal hand, and everyone pays you your royalties. If I have a flush and you have a straight, you'd give me 4 points for the flush and then I'd give you 2 points for the straight, or just a net of 2 points.

As for matching hands, it's what you said. You play your hand against each of the other people. If you sweep, you get 6 points. If someone wins 2-1, the winner gets 1 point.

There's also a significant aspect called Fantasy Land. This happens when you finish with a legal hand and your top hand is QQ or better. If you get this, you get all 13 of your next hand's cards at once and can play them like regular Chinese poker. You can then stay in Fantasy Land if you get a full house in your Fantasy Land hand.

Yea I've been reading up..it sounds fun.

So if I get a full house, but someone else beats me in all 3 hands, I get my full house royalty from everyone, but then give that person 6 points?

Is it usually played by keeping a running tally of points?....or do you just exchange chips?

And is the 1-6 method of scoring more common than the 2-4?

Pai Gow?

One of my secret fun things to do in a casino is to play Pai Gow when there are drunks trying to learn it. Hilarious

You wouldn't think it'd be entertaining to say "Ching Chong, Ching Chong Pong, Ching Chong Pong Ding Dong" for about 5 minutes straight, but you'd be wrong.

Pretty much the easiest drunk game in the casino.

Drunk to dealer - "what do I do"
Dealer - "move these cards from here to there"
Drunk- move cards
???
Profit (or not), most likely push.
