Since the last check in...
Ben Jacobson and Northern Iowa have moved up to #79. Lost a close game to Evansville, kept it competitive against Creighton, and demolished Bradley. Projected 16-14 (9-9). Looking unlikely he earns a promotion to the ACC this year.
Andrew Toole and Robert Morris rattled off 4 straight conference wins, 3 by double digits. Currently ranked #142, projected 21-10 (13-5), 2nd in the Northeast conference.
Chris Holtmann and Gardner Webb have struggled recently. Yesterday's 1 point home loss to Radford dropped them to #188. Projected 17-13 (9-7). Looks like he'll need some more time in the Big South.
Michael White is hot right now. LaTech has won 8 in a row, including 7 straight to begin conference play. Projected 24-7 (14-4), 2nd in the WAC.
Another name that should probably be on this list is
Gregg Marshall, as he has moved Wichita St into the top 25. Now 17-2 on the year, projected 25-5 (14-4). This would give Marshall ~110 wins over the past 4 years.
One more name I've stumbled across:
Steve Pikiell. Relatively young guy with major conference experience (played and coached at UConn in the late 80s and early 90s). Took over a Stony Brook program that had never had a winning record (in conference or overall), and was on probation because of APR issues. It took some time to turn the program around, but now he's on a roll.
2010: 22-10 (13-3), won America East regular season title, lost in the conference tourney semi
2011: 15-17 (8-8), lost (by 2 points) in the conference tourney final
2012: 22-10 (14-2), won America East regular season title, lost (by 8 points) in the conference tourney final
He's had Stony Brook knocking on the door of the NCAAT each of the past 3 years; this year could be the breakthrough. Currently 13-5 (4-1). Projected:
2013: 22-7 (13-3), projected to win the America East regular season title.
His Stony Brook Seawolves are currently ranked #68, which would make them the
best team in America East KP history, a couple spots better than the Vermont team that famously upset Syracuse (remember
TJ Sorrentine?). Should return 5 of his top 7 next year too.
