Pearl Under Consideration for Auburn Position

Bruce Pearl close to taking the Auburn job

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...gers-head-basketball-coaching-job-sources-say

Jeff Goodman also reporting that he's close to accepting their offer. Meanwhile, we haven't even officially terminated [Redacted]. What in the world is our AD doing? I was not really a proponent of hiring Pearl, but schools are moving fast and Wake Forest continues to look absolutely clueless.

Tired of this

Contract details:

Pearl $2M/year
Assistants - $1.5M/year
Players -$1.5M/ year

Every day we wait also affects future recruiting. A number of guys are announcing their intention to transfer (Ronnie Johnson of Purdue a notable one last week) and will be looking at their future destination. You want to give a new staff as much time as possible to re-evaluate and determine who is available for next year. Incredibly, we have not even officially terminated [Redacted] yet.

The level of incompetence here is astounding

I have followed SEC basketball pretty closely the last dozen years or so. Pearl was an assclown at TN. We don't want him at Wake. There are other ways to win big than scooping that guy off the pavement.

The more coaches take other offers, the more desperate other unhired coaches become, and we can get them cheaper.

Supply/demand and all that.

Or something.

This is the problem is giving one person absolute authority and decision making. He really answers to no one. There are essentially no checks and balances at Wake. No second set of eyes on issues to help trouble shoot and problem solve. The problem is compounded given the one person with complete power thinks they are the smartest person in the room and beyond reproach. He is so entrenched in that position coupled with a weak BOT and a president that doesn't really care about athletics that nothing is changing soon. It's a sad situation until he retires.

Auburn has reached an agreement with Bruce Pearl. He will be the Tigers’ next basketball coach, a source told @CBSSports.

The top coaches aren't fully available yet. Their teams are still playing. The only guy that is likely in our Top 5 that we could name this week is Ben Howland.

More evidence that pay for play is alive and well at Auburn.

The NCAA doesn't enforce or penalize pay-for-play anyway (see Oregon, Cam Newton, HBO). Pearl will do very well at Auburn. A perfect match in cultures. Great move on their part.

How long will it take for him to violate the remaining constraints of the show cause that doesn't expire for six months.

And because Auburn is navy and orange, he can get that orange sport coat out of storage and make good use of it.

The NCAA has started three investigations into Bruce Pearl this morning. They say several others are in process.

Right, but it just means that when the top coaches do "become available" (although we both know discussions on potential interest in jobs happen before they ever get eliminated from the NCAAs), it just means the Auburn job isn't competition for ours. That's what I meant by supply/demand. Less supply of available jobs every time one is filled.
