Pit Cruising Thread

If anyone has gone on the Tauck river cruise trip I previously mentioned, (Prague-Budapest) I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks.

Also, this Sake is the best. I can't remember how many cans of this we went through.

It's also available at Total Wine.

If you find yourself going to Nassau, shoot me a PM. I'll send you the WhatsApp# for my guy Craig. The Mrs. and I lucked into snagging a tour with him back in July, and ran into him again this time. He'll hook you up with a colorful tour and see/do whatever you want to do.

He hooked @Liquid Karma and I with a private 4 person tour this time hitting everything we wanted to see at a very reasonable rate.

What is there to see in Nassau? Srs question.
For this one, we went to: a chocolate/wine tasting, a rum distillery, the Queen's Staircase, a seaside park for conch salad and conch fritters, and a tour of some of the neighborhoods. There's a colonial fort very close to the Queen's staircase that costs a couple bucks to tour.

Since we've been a couple times, next time we are going to tour the western side of the island.

I'll also add that, within the last year, Nassau completely renovated their cruise port. It's much nicer than the previous version. Much more organized and less trashy. I'm glad they finally sunk some $$ into it because for the longest time, it was by far the worst in the Caribbean.

Anyone done an Alaskan cruise before? Going on my first on this summer out of Seattle. Happy for any recommendations.

Why do you want your ladies wearing parkas? Mix it up I guess?

Is it just bbd and I that see this thread title and think something completely different?

Oceania.

Ports are Klawock, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, Ketchikan, Victoria.
Here's what we did during our cruise. Be aware, the North Pacific can be angry, so prepare for rougher seas than you may have previously encountered.

Seattle: Hopefully the day will be clear, if so during sail away, there's an opportunity for some great pics of Mount Rainier in the background as you're leaving port.

Klawock: Didn't stop at.

Juneau: Book your whale watching tour here. Auke Bay is where I'd recommend. That area is essentially a highway for migrating whales, and you should be able to see quite a few. We easily saw a few dozen the trip we took. If you don't have another glacier tour booked, hit up Mendenhall Glacier. There are better glaciers around, but this one is the easiest to access. We did the Goldbelt Tram, which was pretty good, but the visibility is highly impacted by fog. If you want to take the tram, wait and purchase tickets day of to ensure good visibility. Red Dog Saloon is a good place to grab quick drink and get a Duck Fart shot. Tracy's King Crab Shack is touristy, but a fun place to grab some fresh crab.

Skagway: We had an excursion booked on the White Pass & Yukon Railway, but we had to cancel that port of call due to the rockslide and inability to tender due to 50 knot wind gusts. I'm still bummed and bitter about that.

Sitka: Didn't stop at.

Ketchican: Didn't stop at.

Victoria: You can thank the Jones Act for this being a required stop on your cruise, but it's really not a bad port of call. There are shuttles to and from the downtown area for a few bucks, and tons to do in that area. We bought a day pass on a bus route that allowed us to get off and explore at various stops along the way. One of which is Craigdarroch Castle. Its an interesting place to spend an hour or two, but dont go into it thinking it'll compare to the Biltmore House. "The Boy" was filmed there, which is a pretty good horror flick, however I would not recommend watching the second movie. It's horrible. Victoria also has a very good China Town, and I'd recommend grabbing lunch there.

Hopefully some others can chime in with their experiences, but I'll readily admit....Alaska is like no other place. The weather was horrible when we went, and I lost my shirt in the casino, but the trip was still absolutely amazing.

My Alaska experience was farther up the coast, and not on a cruise, but Seward and the Kenai Fjords NP were amazing.

I did an Alaskan cruise in April/May 2019. We flew in and out of Seattle. Our cruise actually left from Vancover and arrived back in Seattle so we took the Cascades Train from Seattle to Vancouver.

Our stops were Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay National Park and Ketchikan.

Juneau: We did a hike around the Mendenhall Glacier area. It was nice but nothing special. I would try and do an excursion on the glacier if possible. There's a distillery in town that infuses cedar into their gin. I personally liked it and ended up buying a bottle to take home. I think it was Amalga Distillery.

Skagway - we rented hummers and drove up through Yukon to Emerald Lake and Carcross. It's a nice drive.

Glacier Bay National Park - we couldn't get off the boat but it was really beat seeing all of the glaciers so close. Beautiful scenery.

Ketchikan - we did a floatplane tour to Misty Fjords National Monument. Other than seeing Glacier Bay, this was the other top highlight from the trip. There was a fatal plane crash the week after we were there. We also saw a lumberjack show just because we had extra time in port.
