I'm blatantly stealing this idea from another board. In honor of President's day, name your presidential basketball lineup.

George Washington: Point Guard

Floor general. Tenacious defender who will not back down from the competition no matter how superior they appear on paper. Steady locker room presence, leads by example.

Andrew Jackson: Shooting Guard

Ultra-competitive player that often continues playing beyond the whistle. Leaves the opposition in tears. Like Washington, he is also a good ball handler known for setting his guys up for wide open, uncontested shots.

Barack Obama: Small Forward

He's the only black guy; obviously he's going to get picked. Likes to shoot the long ball, doesn't like mixing it up inside. A little soft, but skilled.

Teddy Roosevelt: Power Forward

Team enforcer. Plays bully ball and has a wide variety of powerful inside moves. Lets his game talk for him.

Abraham Lincoln: Center

Tallest player to pick from (6'4”) and is a relentless rebounder and shot blocker. Is big on keeping unity in the locker room. Has a win-at-all-costs mentality and is not afraid to play dirty.

Harry Truman: Sixth man

Explosive scorer off the bench. Can really put up big numbers in a hurry. Team's closer.

Washington will not pass to Obama. That could cause some problems.

Assuming the ones drafted are already off the board...

PG Ike (best floor General; great at designing lanes)
SG Thomas Jefferson
SF Reagan (Great a fighting through Walls on the perimeter)
PF Taft (The original Round Mound)
C Clinton (Only guy who can match Chamberlain's numbers)

Coached by Skip Prosser

Washington Generals (losing presidential candidates)

Ross Perot - point guard; chippy attitude; slaps floor with both hands on every possession; likes to draw plays on white board; annoys everyone

George McClellan - small forward; defensive specialist; not enough offense in big games; known to give up big leads; benched by Lincoln.

Al Gore - power forward; constantly complains to refs; files protest after every loss; very slow getting up and down court; signed huge free agent contract just before career ending injury

John Kerry - center; big time flopper; rarely stays on his feet; blown over by slight breeze; voted himself on to an all-star team and nominated self as MVP

George McGovern - non-shooting guard; placed on roster to keep BKF happy; helps gore organize protests; never attempted a shot; refuses to shoot free throws; refuses to shoot anything; gets angry at teammates when they shoot; believes weak defense is key to victory

This team isn't going to be relying on a Washington-Obama PnR. It's the Lincoln-Obama two-man game that will give opponents fits.

The JV Team:

PG James K Polk (Could really take it Coast to Coast)
SG William Henry Harrison (Went down faster that Paulus on a secondary break)
SF Jimmy Carter (patterns his low post game, and North Korea policy, after Dennis Rodman)
PF James "The Cannon" Buchanan (
C Woodrow Wilson (Lanky UVa product in the Chase Matheny mold; Equally effective in all regards).

PG: Harry Truman (Like CP3 he had to step into the starting role right away. He can drop bombs but is equally capable at offering an assist)
SG: George W (he's a shooting guard in the Michael Ray Richardson or David Thompson mold)
SF: Barry (because duh)
PF: Clinton (he makes rebounding look easy and he can score at will from the low block)
C: Lincoln (he's tall, he's honest, he kills vampires, He's a plus defender, his outlet passes really free up the offense)

My main concern with W is that he has trouble finishing around the rim. He's definitely not afraid of contact though. He has a tendency to get a little out of control and then find himself in trouble underneath the basket.

We all know Obama is coasting a little on reputation, and the advanced metrics guys hate him. If I was going to replace him, I'd look for a wing scorer that can create his own shot in pressure situations. FDR has the right attitude, but he lacks the physical tools to get the job done. I think this one boils down to Lyndon Johnson or Ronald Reagan, and between those two I'm going with Reagan. I already have one crazy guy on the team (Jackson), I don't think I can afford another one.

My coach would be James Madison. Very knowledgeable about the game, literally wrote the rule book.

Is George W Washington or Bush? Bush was a frickin CHEERLEADER. He can't play. Maybe his dad could, but W can't.

Good call RJ, I think I grossly misread RChildress. Still, my criticism to George W Bush remains.

Daddy Bush at least played baseball at Yale.

Wasn't LBJ about 6'2 or 6'3? Plus he was an incredibly dirty player in Washington.

Thanks fun police. I would wager that GWB was actually one of the more physically fit presidents during his time in office. I bet he could run circles around most of the rest of them.

His dad was absolutely a better athlete. W couldn't make a team in HS or college. So what if he could run a long distance. His dad is still jumping out of airplanes in his 80s.

Obviously 41 is a better choice than 43. If it's between running artound W and dirty bows LBJ, I'll take the bows.

kitchin defended your pick. I'm not the only one who thought you were serious. :)
