Rating ACC Coaching Jobs

1. UNC
2. Duke

3. Maryland

4. State
5. GT
6. Wake
7. UVA

8. Clemson
9. FSU
10. VT
11. Miami

Since 1990 it's not even close:

Wake - 13 NCAAs, 3 Sweet 16s, 1 Elite 8, multiple NBA stars
State- 6 NCAAs, 1 Sweet 16, no NBA stars

The numbers don't lie.

So history from 1990 counts but not history overall? Recruits care as much about what happened in 1990 as 1974 and 1983. If you look at the job now, Wake is a trainwreck, NC State is not. The only reason State's job might suck is really because we have a lot of retarded fans

That isn't what this thread is about.

The results don't happen in a vacuum.

State has stunk for too long to say their job is so good. By accident one of the past three guys should have been able to do much better.

There's something about State that leaves their job the list.

Have you talked to a kid lately? Hell what happened in 2000 mattering is a stretch to kids today.

So you admit that you randomly bringing out results since 1990 was worthless?

In regards to what is the better coaching job now. Or the more attractive

They have made shitty hires because they have had a shitty administration. That's the problem. Coaches realize that, and the good ones have confidence that they can take all the potential and make something happen.

State has tons of money, the most rabid fan base in the ACC, and certain characteristics recruits like (large school and lax academics).

Elite Schools

1. UNC- Get your pick of recruits at a top 3 job in the country (Kentucky and Kansas)
2. Duke- A bit of a negative perception by a significant segment of athletes (Jalen may have use the wrong verbiage, but that perception exists)

GAP

Quality State Schools
3. Maryland- Good program, good facilities, not really elite.
4. GT- Great recruiting area, new facility coming. Some drawbacks.
5. State- Good area, fans constantly compare with UNC/Duke, but capable of getting great recruits
6. UVA- Limited history, should actually be higher, but for whatever reason, doesn't seem like they belong

GAP
Have limitations, potential for success
7. Wake- Good school, solid recruiting area, good NBA history, tiny school size can turn off a lot of guys.
8. Clemson- Football school. Not too much B-ball interest. Poor history.
9. FSU- See above, except to a higher extent.

GAP
The dregs
10. VT- Blah. Who wants to go to Blacksburg and never go to the tourney?
11. Miami- Great area. So great that nobody shows up.

GAP

Embarrassment

12. BC- Like Miami, but replace "great" with "racist"

This list is pretty accurate. I think you could move a few of them around depending on what you are looking to attract in a coach, but the list itself probably represents the average attractiveness of the programs pretty well.

I don't understand Virginia. Their facilities are top notch, have some history, seems like they could bring in some top recruits with the right coach. But at the same time they seem mired in suck and it's hard to imagine them getting out of it

Yea. In both basketball and football, UVA is the program that is most baffling to me in terms of its inability to sustain success in either sport.

Is rj explaining how 20 year olds view nc state to 20 year olds?

Pretty close to what I'd come up, too. I definitely think picking the #4 program is the hardest task in this little exercise. 1 to 3 and 10 to 12 are obvious, while State / GT / Wake seem to be in a sub-group that is above VT / Clemson / UVA.
