Republican Plan to Starve Public Education

No surprise here. North Carolina has been at the forefront of this battle since the GOP took over the legislature in 2011. My wife is an elementary school teacher, and in just a few years she's gone from having a full-time teaching assistant, to a part-time one, to having to share a part-time assistant (an hour a day), to now having no assistant at all. In the meantime, her class sizes have increased. I've seen what the legislature has done to public ed in this state, and to increase funding for private, for-profit charter schools (which some Republicans have a vested interest in). The leader of the attack on public ed in NC has been Phil Berger. That guy is scum at least on the same level as Trump, imo. I've heard comments about him from teachers who have met him personally, including some who work in his native Rockingham County, and none of it is positive.

How is it that liberal elites want to give education away for free and conservative elites want to keep the masses dumb and paranoid? Which side of that equation do you want to find yourself on? What is it they don’t want the kids to know about?

Quite frankly, everything

What a disaster Republicans have become. Putting DeVos in charge of Education after she couldn’t answer simple questions about Educational issues and concepts at her hearing, is the ultimate middle finger to our kids. What’s the point of confirmation hearings anymore? Just rubber stamp any Tom, Dick, or Betsy who comes through. What a joke.

Georgia School Announces It Will Start Paddling Children As Punishment

The permission form obtained by WRDW, which has not been independently verified, outlines exactly how the children will be disciplined — they would be “taken into an office behind closed doors,” told to “place their hands on their knees or piece of furniture,” and “struck on the buttocks with a paddle.” The paddles will be “24 inches in length, six inches in width and 3/4 inches in thickness.”

Should parents choose to opt out of the paddling, they must agree to up to five days of suspension for their children.

Alaska desperately needs to get talented people in the state. The best way to do this is with a strong public education system. If people have to leave the state to get a quality education, they may not come back.

But maybe the whole idea is to get the nerds to leave the state for the real Americans who vote Republican.
