RIP Norm Snead

Snead was the #2 overall pick in the 1961 NFL draft. Remains the highest a WF football player was ever picked.

45% completion percentage at Wake which sounds laughable today, but that was the "Norm" (sorry) for a top qb of that era. Everything from under center, no multiple wideouts, and calling your own plays, along with the "3 things can happen/two of them bad" resulted in a much different passing game that is unrecognizable today.

For those who don't know, he was a 4 time Pro Bowl player, back when there was a Pro Bowl.
During his career he was also traded for Sonny Jurgensen and then for Fran Tarkenton, although Washington and Minnesota likely got the best of those deals.

He played basketball at Wake, too. Shades of Rusty LaRue.

And pass interference rules were much different then, too.

Caldwell would have had him throwing 50 times a game.
