Role of the Media

Great video on how the MSM fellated convicted felon Michael Avenatti when they were convinced he was bringing down Trump:

If only there was some rule in place to combat disinformation in media.

The excerpt you posted looks like it was written by someone steeped in lies from one of those Americas; therefore, he questions facts from the other America.

downplaying the violence associated with the BLM marches - The overwhelming evidence is the vast majority of marches were peaceful. Only right-wing nutjobs who looked at fires on Fox News on a loop thought there was mass violence at BLM marches.

making up stories about the Russian government paying bounties for American soldiers in Afghanistan - I forget the deal with this one. Bad journalism maybe? That's different than "making up stories."

doubting the motivations of anyone who suggested COVID-19 may have escaped from a Wuhan lab - The motivations were clear. Fuel anti-Chinese sentiment to give Trump cover. Note that the Trump administration wasn't pursuing an investigation. They just ran with it.

This is another example of Republicans blowing enough smoke up each other's asses to convince themselves there's a fire. Mainstream media doesn't carry water for the Dems. They report facts and do investigative journalism and present it all with a deference toward presenting "both sides" that inherently skews toward the right by portraying them as good faith actors who aren't working against democracy.

If you can't even admit that mainstream media outlets are biased in favor of the Dems and liberal policies, you are incorrigible.

Is this going to be another “you need to prove a negative” argument from Junebug?

What even is the MSM anymore? When half the country favors "non" MSM like talk radio, Fox/OAN/Newsmax, Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc, does that not make it also so-called "mainstream"? If the former president makes appearances on there and only favors them, and advertisers it to his base, seems like that is fairly mainstream.

+1. It makes conservatives giddy and excited to think they are the ragtag but brave and heroic rebel media challenging the Establishment. Except, as you pointed out, conservative media is now every bit as "mainstream" as liberal media, and in fact usually gets higher ratings and more viewers. The truth is that the days of America having an "Establishment" media are over - there are no Walter Cronkites or David Brinkleys or Peter Jennings out there anymore. Our media is factionalized, and has been for some time. But conservatives will keep claiming that they're the heroic underdogs taking on the liberal media elites because it fits their narrative and what they want to hear.

Wow, you missed the point entirely.

The point is that the mainstream media is carrying water for the Dems, so Pubs don't trust the mainstream media anymore. When the mainstream media reports that there was no election fraud, Pubs don't believe it because they don't trust the mainstream media, even when the mainstream media is right. Fox started it, to be sure, but now even CNN has rejected objectivity for clicks. We are getting to the point where we have 2 Americas, each with its own set of facts.

This is mostly and sadly true, IMO.

But conservatives began distrusting the mainstream media long ago, before Fox News existed. Mainly because they didn't like the realities being displayed.

And there's no contest when it comes to which "side" seems more able and willing to at least strive towards a more honest product.

So "facts" should probably carry quotation marks.

If they are biased toward (imperfectly) reporting truthfully, that will lead them to disfavor the more dishonest party.

Maybe the real problem is a party that made themselves so accustomed to dishonest politicking they became ripe for takeover by a pathological liar.

Real Talk. When you can't or won't respond to the content of a post just insult the poster and hope they get pissed and go away. You're welcome.

Sure Joe Biden lied about finishing top of his class in law school, about receiving scholarships he never did, marching in civil rights demonstrations, plagiarizing multiple speeches, and wove a hilarious yarn about getting arrested in South Africa when he attempted to visit Mandela.

But pathological seems a little strong... On second thought you might be right!!

Thx Independent!!11

Any response to the laundry list of Biden bullshit that you (the independent) tacitly supported by voting for him in 2020?

Not really. I didn't just vote for him in the general election (I voted for Warren in the primary). Once he became the nominee, I sent money to his campaign.

Who'd you vote for?

could be but as you can see from above he is living in a world where the truth is malleable depending on the presenter of the point of view. republicans are counting on the old adage that history is written by the victors to discount what is obvious. it worked for 70+million people to the detriment of this country.

there is only one set of FACTS. the "facts" you are talking about that are presented by "non mainstream media" (though it has been pointed out that your sources have become mainstream despite their extreme... uh... tilt) are not, in fact, facts. they are largely lies gleefully gobbled up by idiots just wanting to own the libs.

Which party supports a violent insurrection on the US government?

One set of facts says it’s Antifa but we shouldn’t bother to Investigate it.

The other set of facts says it was Trump supporters seeking to disrupt the process by which Biden’s election was certified and most Republicans in Congress voted against certifying it.

So who could know which set of facts are correct?
