Role of the Media

One can talk about Russians and Trump but never about Russians and Hillary, or Democrats. Carry on.

you can talk about it all you want, it's just totally irrelevant.

i'll take your response as an assent that Trump's administration is traitorous

Ideological hostility made worse by left-liberal intolerance.

Yes. Ideological hostility towards lies and left-liberal intolerance for liars.

lol, you are bat shit crazy with your hatred and bigotry comrade!

There was never so much hostility and (ALT) RIGHT degradation against anyone until Hillary (Obama, to a lesser extent...because he is black). It just so happens that Trump has moved the bar into the depths of the swamp...Washington was always corrupt but Trump and his racist followers have really brought it to the next level.

I would like to think that the so called Christians have figured out that they have been tricked by a vial man, but they will most likely hide behind their Bible to celebrate their racism in Trump's America.

From the Winston-Salem Journal Editorial Board: Press needed now more than ever

Where to start? The full tax returns that were talked about but never released? The content of the chats between the military official and the Russian diplomat? The body-cam footage of the confrontation between police and the man who died in custody? These are examples of the Holy Grails the press tries to reveal to you, the public, so that you’ll know what your government and its representatives are doing in your name. It’s not always easy. But it’s always worthwhile.

During Sunshine Week in particular, which falls this week this year, we reaffirm and recommit to the press mission to demand transparency and accountability from our government officials. It’s a prospect to which they can sometimes be shy, to say the least.

Some politicians, both left and right, often prefer the shadows. It’s a good place to hide from public view while enriching themselves and rewarding the special interests that drive their campaigns.

But, then, here comes the press, asking, digging, exposing, informing the public about their words and actions. It keeps at least some politicians honest, which is essential to democracy.

In the age of fake news — stories full of lies, purposely written to mislead the public — and a loss of public confidence — spurred by unfair but convincing criticism — the press has never been more important. The cure for bad journalism isn’t censorship, but good journalism, and more of it.

This is especially necessary during the administration of President Trump, who regularly tries to discredit truth-telling organizations and institutions like the Bureau of Labor Statistics when their data conflicts with his goals. Last month, he even declared several major news organizations to be “the enemy of the American People.”

It’s so much easier to shoot the messenger than answer the messenger’s questions.

Advertisers have found that supporting fake-news websites may not be the best long-term marketing strategy. And here at the Journal editorial department, we’ve never been busier, and neither have our letter writers, who’ve been giving us overflow loads on many days lately. This is what a fact-based public forum is all about.

The press isn’t perfect. It’s composed of people. But when it strays or acts too rashly, it sets the record straight and presses forward again.

It can certainly not, as chief White House strategist Steve Bannon suggested in January, “keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” effectively giving politicians free license. That’s not the job. The job is to listen, to investigate, then to inform the American people so they can act wisely. It’s a job the press takes seriously.

It’s important enough that many newspapers, educational institutes and public-information organizations join the American Society of News Editors and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press to support Sunshine Week.

And keep your letters and other input coming. We value it.

Media should absolutely call it out when Trump goes senile and starts talking to his microwave thinking that Obama is listening to him.

"Trump has claimed that Obama lives in his microwave. We have not been able to confirm."

I remember when Bob2 was spewing his shitty propaganda and thought Kurt Eichebwald was lying about people sending him strobes to induce seizures on Twitter. Looks like the FBI arrested somebody, ooooooppps

"Let’s See If He Dies": Man Arrested For Allegedly Tweeting Seizure-Inducing Strobe GIF At Journalist

The account contained direct messages to other Twitter users that included statements by Rivello, such as “I hope this sends him into a seizure,” “Spammed this at [victim] let’s see if he dies,” and “I know he has epilepsy,” the office of Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Blanco announced Friday.

Rivello’s iCloud account also contained a screenshot of a Wikipedia page for Eichenwald that had been altered to show a fake obituary with the date of death listed as Dec. 16, 2016, as well as screen shots from epilepsy.com with a list of commonly reported seizure triggers, prosecutors said.

Can't believe he didn't get away with it.

So telling the truth about a foreign government's involvement in a US election and their deep ties to US policy-making (which is hugely deleterious to US interests) is bad in sailor's world. What a shock!

they don't even try to prove that they are telling the truth, they just keep repeating something based on speculation
