Assuming that a very competent coach is hired, how long will it take to get back to a consistent top twenty five program?

How long does something have to occur before it is deemed to be "consistent?"
At least that long.

4-5 years (assuming no transfers from the current roster)

Really with how young this team is whoever comes in should be all about trying to poach recruits getting two 4/5 star talents would be a big step to competing nightly in an ever more brutal ACC.

More realistically is convincing Mitchell to say and securing a commitment from someone in the entering class in year 2.

Great plan Butthead. Just get a couple of great players and away we go.

Addition of Pitt, Syracuse and Louisville makes this more difficult.

Yes getting one to two much better players or adding one high end recruit to keeping one your supposed to have coming is setting the bar pretty low for what I would like the new coach to build for long term consistency.

Have to start somewhere.

In a sense. But those schools are going to continue to recruit as they always have. They being in the ACC is incidental in terms of national recruiting for the most part. They have their regional influence and go after the five star players. Wake has its own regional strengths and we know you can recruit at Wake when you build a program. I'm not so sure recruiting is the most pressing problem.
