So It Seems That Our President Is A Little Catty

But didn't our President all but confirm Ryan's suspicions in his speech yesterday? It was a call-to-arms for all liberals to fight for the existence of their ideal society.

And honestly I'm not saying I disagree with all parts of his plan, I actually like parts of both plans, I was just pointing out how partisan and childish his actions were.

I guess so, if you consider an ideal society one where poor people and old people can expect and afford basic medical care instead of the wealthiest people in the country avoiding a marginal tax increase. It really sounds more like a call to arms for human decency.

Are you kidding? He's got 241 House Republicans out there calling him names and calling his citizenship and integrity into question every chance they get. They deserve much worse and the President of the US swings a pretty big stick.

Here's video from last week of Ryan saying that Obama is moving us to a "western European-style, cradle to grave, social welfare state," in other words . . . "SOCIALIST!"

And before you accuse me of twisting his words, you might notice that the video is hosted on the impeachobama website.
http://www.impeachobamacampaign.com/video-rep-paul-ryan-obamas-america-is-becoming-a-socialist-state/

Here's another quote from December (http://dailycaller.com/2010/12/02/paul-ryan-says-obama-fiscal-commission-report-is-a-step-backwards/2/):

“We will be choosing what kind of future we want to have for the rest of this century in the very near future in this country, probably in 2012,” Ryan said. “So I believe we owe it to the country to give them an alternative choice than the path we’re on right now. And I really sincerely believe, and I’ll back it up all afternoon long if you want me to, we’re on a path to being a social democracy, a cradle to the grave European-type welfare state.”

Calling Obama and the Democrats socialists is without a doubt part of his schtick. It's a talking point that he uses.

What the fuck difference does it make where the video is hosted? It's actually hosted on YouTube, but that's neither here nor there.

Comparing Dem expansive government plans to Europe is par for the course for Pubs. Always has been. It's also very true that the left and the Dems in general have been wanting the European model for the US for a great many years. Why is that so controversial to point that out?

Hey, don't bitch at me. Go said that he didn't say Obama is a socialist. I showed that he, in fact, did. The YouTube video is embedded at the impeachobamacampaign website (to split hairs). I pointed that out because i wanted Go to under stand that it wasn't just me who was interpreting his words, but also his tea party buddies.

I think the Simpson-Bowles plan is about the best we can do. Obama ignored that and asked for yet ANOTHER panel to review how to reduce the deficit. He comes across as kicking the can down the road. Ryan's plan is a bit nuts since taxes will have to go up, but at least he looks serious about a solution. Obama just wants to win 2012 (and likely will, but the Senate will go all Republican).

So let me get this straight...the GOP wants to run on a platform of ending Medicare (the elderly), ending Medicaid (the poor/lower middle class), and cutting taxes for the rich and the corporate classes (screw the middle class, still won't create jobs).

Hope that works out for them. It's like the GOP doesn't WANT to get back in the White House.

As long as the Republicans continue to frame any kind of socialist entity with such a broad brush, they will only succeed in motivating their own die-hard membership.

Only a tiny fraction of independents and on-the-fence liberals will ever buy into Medicare as evil, everything socialist as horrifying, or the idea that we can solve the debt crisis while extending tax cuts.

Most people understand that many socialist entities must stay, many can be cut or reduced, and that the debt requires higher tax revenue. In fact most Republicans believe that as well but have to weigh everything against the Tea Party reaction.

The idea that you could start the discussion by saying "anything that increases anyone's taxes next year by any amount is off the table" is ridiculous. Especially from a party that almost shut down the government by inserting planned parenthood into a budget discussion.

Obama crushed it yesterday. The far right sees it as a shocking revelation that he's a socialist - reactions from moderates suggests it was a no-nonsense dose of reality.

SOCIALIST!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111!!!!!

Seriously, you thought it was a great speech?

I guess Republican majorities in both house and Obama losing might change your mind next year....this speech was the last straw, the President's hung himself. He's finished, I'm calling it today, April 14, 2011.

You might want to check with the bookies. Professional gambling sites list Obama today at around a 4/6 favorite, with the closest competitor being Romney at around 8/1. If you're "calling it today," feel free to wager, but he's still the prohibitive favorite for reelection.

Looks to me like Obama has given up on the whole "I'd rather be a great one term president than a mediocre two term one" thing. He is totally refusing to make the tough decisions and is indeed kicking the can down the road (as was mentioned above) just so he can be re-elected. Hope and Change, indeed...

I came on this thread just to post this, and this post goes along right with it:

I just wanted to chime in that John Stewart making fun of how far Obama went to avoid saying we'll have to raise taxes was hilarious. Said he needs to stop quoting Orwell's books, and the way Obama phrased it was akin to instead of saying I'm going on a diet, I am increasing the number of calories on my excluded calories list

Why do people say things like this? So needlessly divisive and such an emotionally charged argument. An appeal to emotion, appeal to pity, straw man, and red herring. Probably more.

If we're talking "ideal societies", mine would be that people in the community would take care of the people who need it in their own community. Whether it be individuals (which would probably be a rich person) stepping up, or churches actually doing what they're charged to do and taking care of the sick and poor (/elderly) in their community (also I'm sure Muslims are supposed to do something similar), or charities, or what have you. Then we wouldn't really need the government providing Medicare and such. That's my ideal society, not rich people getting a little tax break and everyone else being miserable and/or dying.

I always used to think our politicians are the ones ruining the country. Then I realized us citizens are at fault just as much. Very few of us can argue with others without taking jabs at those we disagree with, wanting the rich taxed but at the same time doing everything possible to not have to pay ourselves, wanting government spending reigned in but not wanting any programs beneficial to us to be slashed, etc.

I will now continue my ignoring politics forums, they only tend to get me needlessly riled up.

Ryan's a simplistic idiot. If the ideas that he's relentlessly pushing are stupid, he completely deserves to be called out on it.

This is pretty funny. Is this like when McCain's selection of Sarah Palin won the election for the Republicans?

Maybe I just don't pay close enough attention, but it seems to be politics has become more partisan and divided over this last decade than I remember them ever being. Votes are going down party lines and neither side ever has anything good to say about the other. It's all finger pointing and positioning. I know that it's something that's always been there, but it just seems worse now than it has been in the past.

Which is why the tea party movement gained traction.
