Anyone been there? We're going next May and staying at the Marriott Resort. About all I know about the island is that the snorkeling pretty much sucks.

Go to a beach front restaurant called Spray Nets. If your staying in the resorts its out of the way but worth it.

We got served a mountain of lobster tails >20 for 3 people, and hammered on rum drinks. One of the best meals of my life.

Never been to St. Kitts, but have been to Nevis. Snorkeling is ok, not great. I love Nevis, my go to island.

I've been and we stayed at that Marriott right when it opened. It was a family trip (mom, dad, brother, sister, and me) and we had a lot of fun. Toured the fort, drove out to Turtle Beach, drank lots of rum, saw a bunch of vervet monkeys running around, guys selling pot on the beach...all in all it was a good trip. That was also about 10 years ago though so I don't know what it's like these days.

Re: the Marriott -- good-sized beach and pools (and should have no problem getting a beach/pool chair in May); friendly service, although they are sometimes on "island time" in the on-resort restaurants; casino wasn't packed and had low table limits; 5-10 minute ride from the airport; overall a relaxing place. The restaurants at the resort are decent (especially the outdoor restaurant between the main pool and the beach -- good for lunch). If you're heading off-resort, Serendipity on the west side of Basseterre is good.

If you only have time for one excursion, it's worth taking a taxi ride up to Brimstone Hill Fortress from the hotel (30 minute drive, taxi will wait at the top for about 1 1/2 hours while you explore, about $60 including tip for 2 people).

No need to bring East Caribbean Dollars unless you plan on doing something really off the beaten path. Every place accepts USD. (If you do end up bringing ECD, the casino will exchange them for USD at almost the true exchange rate.)

Let me know if you need any additional info.
