Stock Market Crash

He's been lying for years and it hasn't affected it as much. The difference now is that the people with money finally give a shit about the lies because they might die off before they can spend it all.

So, I just read that every adult in the country is going to get a fucking check. Really?

You know, I don't hear my Republican friends talking about budget deficits anymore.........

Republican embrace "socialism" and the stock market goes up.

Agreed giving everyone a check is fucking stupid.

Fortunately, my financial well-being hasn't been affected at all by coronavirus yet. There's no need for me to get a check. In fairness to Trump, he also said there was no need for millionaires to be receiving a check either (they'll get theirs from other bailouts). That said, I do wonder what is the most effective way of getting money to service industry workers or gig workers who have already lost their income without throwing away money to people like me who don't need it. Seems like there is a ton of room for corruption/waste whether it is handled at the federal, state or local level. I honestly have no idea what the right answer is but a check to everyone doesn't seem the best use of resources.

i think the administrative and political issues around making a cut based on which jobs are affected make that impossible

Yeah - better to get money in the hands of those who need it than not. I just feel like there has to be a better way of getting those funds in the right hands rather than all hands. But like you said, maybe not.

Latest I heard was checks would go out end of April, which is a long ass time to wait for those who live paycheck to paycheck.

maybe a tax accountant can fill me in on what income data the IRS has outside of tax returns, but with the 2019 tax deadline still to come, you'd have to go back to 2018 tax returns for a full roster

What about a $2,000 check and if you end up making more than x amount adjusted income on the year you pay it or a percentage back?

Why not just pump up unemployment insurance? Anyone that lost their job gets max unemployment plus the 1000 or whatever is decided on.

if you were issued a W-2 or 1099 for 2019, they should have that data.

it would be very difficult to cross reference that for every citizen.

I sure could have used $1000 41 years ago when I was borrowing money to pay for law school, to eat, and take the bar exam! Now, not so much.
