If the NCAA really has enough evidence to come down hard on UNC, I'm not sure many if any schools would follow them in a break away attempt. Most schools want to appear that they are "following the rules." Following a breakaway lead by UNC just after they get hammered as a major rule breaker (5, or is it now 6 level 1 infractions) that is also on probation by the academic accrediting body would not be a good scenario for most, if not all other schools. A break away UNC would probably be ostracized.
IMHO, if a breakaway from the NCAA were to happen, it would have to be lead by a group of schools (probably a conference) that had reasonably clean records, strong influence on other colleges, good finances, and multiple gripes with the NCAA. I don't have any candidates, just a description of what it would take.
