The 2 party system is kaput

"Love or hate it, it's time to face this new reality: The Democratic and the Republican parties as we know them are finished and the politicians, the people who give them money, and the people who cover them need to adjust accordingly"

Interesting article.

Bottom line: Donald Trump....who was supposed to be a rank amateur and politically clueless buffoon....has made a fool out of all of them.

No matter what you think of him, he has single-handedly completely transformed American politics.

Of course, he could never have done it if the system had not already become completely rotten to the core. He was just the only person who had the balls to stand before the American people and say it. It could have been someone other than Trump, because the people were fed up and longing for a change....but no other politician had the balls to do it.

I think Obama has a part in the transition.

Yep. He campaigned on hope and change. It was clear there was a desire for change on the left. But the establishment didn't listen and got burned for it.

They didn't rally around Obama in the midterms and try to court his coalition. They continued to push Hillary instead of developing a bench which opened up room for Bernie from the far left.

For as long as there has been Wake boards on the internet, I've said America needs at least a viable, national third party. The problem is people have tried to do them the wrong way. If we had started building a third party 30-50 years ago at the local level, it would have grown.

It's almost impossible to do it the way the way it has been tried. You can't build a real third party by running people for POTUS. If that was possible the POTUS would have no one in Congress on his side.

We need to figure a way to get about 20 Senators and about 60-80 Representatives of the third party so that governing and compromise can happen.

What the fuck does .... mean? Are the Randolph County public schools that fucking awful?

When someone says a thing is finished, it's definitely not close to being finished

Yep. These declaratory articles and their sweeping conclusions that people are part and parcel to politics.

When bkf says "people" he ALWAYS just means country white people.

besides donald will bring no meaningful changes, more like just taking a time out from US participation on earth domestically and abroad for 4-8 years.

Sanders would've actually enacted positive changes. Until nixon and reagan this country was pretty progressive, sanders would've taken u back to those glory days, BKF!

Trump governs like W on crack for months before making a deal that trades a typical Republican demand for a typical Dem demand.

"The two party system is finished!"

It's not kaput, primarily based on plurality-rule over proportional representation.

The former heavily favors a two-party system while the latter is far more likely to generate multiple parties.

They're worried that if Moore wins the runoff, then he will lose to the Democrat, Doug Jones.

Moore is kind of like Trump in that even though he is repulsive to about 55% of people, his 30% - 40% base is die hard.
