Sure, but we should probably rethink how long/permanent these records should be kept.. it'd be nice to bring the internet in line with our current paradigm regarding memories and permanence of certain information (ie they should fade over time/aren't perfect), especially since it's easy to find information online that's taken out of context. I'd be fine with advertisers holding data for 1-3 years even if that's what needs to happen to make the money necessary to run it all, but not forever.

Not to mention the propensity for coming to the wrong conclusions when analyzing big data. If you have enough data you can prove almost anything or draw whatever conclusion you want. More data is not always the answer, unfortunately.

The degree to which ive noticed that advertisements on pretty much every website i visit have been tailored to my interests in say the last few months has been really scary
 
I've been getting a lot of ads for websites I've visited and haven't bought anything from and I don't do much shopping online.
 
I keep getting ads for little people escort services and animal costumes. I have no idea why.
 
So my German Dungeon Porn fetish is not a secret? I'm stunned.

I won't pretend that I know how it (AdWords and others) really works; but i thought i had been pretty careful to keep my work-related searches, etc. off of my personal computer/Google account... in the past 3 months or so, whenever I am on my phone or laptop, I'm pretty much guaranteed to see at least one of my own ads.

Frustrating for a number of reasons.
