The Great Uniter

But, but, but one's a whiney phoney and the other is a socialist. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?

Most socialists I know don't consider Bernie a socialist, you fucking Nazi.

I think Trump is terrible and would never consider voting for him. I am not a republican. However, I have to hand it to the GOP in that they tend to rally around their nominee. The traditional "moneyed" republicans wouldn't come out and vote for Trump if the alternative was palatable to them. Warren and Sanders are not palatable to them. Thus, if either is the nominee, the GOP will rally again and Trump will win, assuming he is the nominee. Just my opinion.

May be semantics, but it depends on who you mean by the "traditional 'moneyed' Republicans." As has been pointed out by a lot of pollsters, Donald's overall popularity has decreased and settled in the upper 30's lower 40's, but "Republican" support has remained the same. This is because people who support Donald tend to continue to identify as Republicans and those who once supported him but no longer do have generally ceased identifying as a Republican.

Under 25% of the country currently identifies as a Republican. In order for Donald to win he'd have to carry 90-95% of all Republicans in every purple state. It's possible, but I don't believe it's likely.

Color me shocked to see Sailor again using "whiney" language when referencing a woman. Simply a misogynistic piece of shit.

I think the thinking here is that the Democrats are going to win in 2020 regardless of this vote and they might as well run as progressive a candidate as they can find in order to push policy. The problem with this is that it is only going to deepen the political divides in this country, create additional unrest, and failed compromises. It is also playing with fire in that they might lose to Trump in 2020.

Is it ok to reference a dude as being whinny, or is this a term that should be generally avoided these days, like say the word pussy or bitch?

Why should Democrats care about the fragile feelings of Trump supporters?

I think everybody should care about the current state America's in and want us to have greater unity and togetherness. A decade ago there was political disagreements and discourse, but the divisions were nothing like what we are seeing today.

I agree with you that 15-20% of the most adamant and loud trump supporters are lost causes and can generally get fucked, but that doesn't mean the rest of the country has to hate each other. I can tell you that nominating and electing a socialist isn't going to make core societal divides in this country any better. You might get some nice rhetoric, but the end game is going to be a less united country.

The reason that Dems hate Pubs is because the overwhelming vast majority of the 80-85% that you don’t consider to be “lost causes” have jumped into bed with the Nazis and the tubes and everyone else. I dont claim to speak for al other liberals and Dems, but I don’t want to be united with anyone who supports Trump. If you think Trump has done a good job as president or is a good human being, fuck you.

The divisions are worse because of Trump and the Republicans.

Remind me what percentage of democrats and republicans support medicare for all?

I spent yesterday morning, after thinking i was going to peacefully sip coffee and watch meet the press, taking my uninsured friend to urgent care who was having a panic attack and pain from a lingering sinus infection that she let linger before getting some antibiotics. She had no idea going in how much it would cost, but I told her I'd pay the 140 fee and we'd see what the costs would be. It is so starkly different than the experience I had studying in Italy when a friend got alcohol poisoning and got great treatment, no questions asked, out the door with no bill.

Our current healthcare system is currently a moral failure. No one else in the world goes bankrupt for healthcare costs.

Fuck your unity, when you are talking about finding middle ground and compromise with racists, fascists, people that don't think public schools should exist, people that think we need a militarized border, people that think people should be dying from easily treatable diseases, or people that want to perpetuate the military industrial complex and prison industrial complex.

We have a problem in this country because there is a great divide in the interests of the poor and working class and those that claim to represent them. Warren is already building her stump speech around the hollowing out of the middle class. Fuck that. Talk about the poor.

There is a divide between the popularity of progressive policies and the popularity of "liberal" politicians. I think that is because largely liberal politicians still represent the interests of the capital class, and then lose trust with voters for being perceived as "elite." We need politicians that are able to directly speak to the material interests of their constituents. We don't need elected officials that continue to pretend to care about the interests of poor and working class people, and then support endless militarism.

It's class war, because class war already exists.

I used to care about the opinions of the other side, but after “make Obama a 1 term president,” “you lie,” Judge Garland, and Trump, I say trample the other side and never give their desires a single thought.

Then you might want to give them an option in between Trump and a Socialist so you don't drive people on the fence into the Trump camp.

It’s wild to me that the last democratic president was just about as close to the centrist uniter described in the OP as it gets, and conservatives lost their fucking minds about him. The current Republican President is Donald trump who is an absolute piece of shit human being causing the left the lose their minds. Then folks like catamount want dems to think about their role in united political discourse. What a joke.
