The New Socialists

Definitely seems like a poor way to manage the economy to expect citizens to tie up large amounts of liquid savings to hedge against emergency/catastrophic heath costs

The hip replacement for a 90 year old is the problem people will have with cost, benefit, societal impact that a medical review panel will put out. Not to mention that the government is really really bad at those type of problems already.

Are y’all suprised that an Adobe salesman from Western is both dumb and callous?

Stop doing this. It’s elitist as fuck. Catamount sucks because he’s got shit opinions and is a bootlicker, not because he went to Western or sells Adobe.

There’s nothing crazy about hip replacement for 90+ years old folks. If they are otherwise in decent enough health. Even more appropriate to repair/replace following a fracture for the vast majority of folks, regardless of age.

Sure, it can be reasonable and appropriate to not repair a hip fracture for some folks with pre-existing very poor quality of life. And help them just be comfortable for their remaining days, which would typically be few.

Anyhow, yes it’s terrible that we haven’t yet achieved a health care system that succeeds in providing reasonable and appropriate care to everyone without risk of personal financial ruin. Because it’s possible to do so much better than we do.

This is a college sports team’s message board. It’s built around making fun of other colleges and the people who went to them.

I have pity for anyone that spent 4 college years in Cullowhee.

To me this is a weird take. Let's be honest, WCU is a glorified community college it is what it is, but the only good thing about it is that it's in Cullowhee. Cullowhee is fucking amazing, if your into what it has to offer then it's really hard to beat for an east coast school. I'd rather be there than Winston.

I get the sense that you are down playing this or even mocking these people. I spent 25% of my liquid life savings when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer 7 years ago. I needed surgery and 4 months of chemo therapy and with my really good employer provided health insurance the co-pays quickly added up. Each IV bag of medication cost about $3000 and I needed about 40 bags spread over 4 months and I co-paid some percentage on every single one till I hit the individual out of pocket annual maximum. Thank goodness I'd landed my job a year before the diagnosis came.

Yeah I wasn't trying to say that people deserve to go broke because they get cancer. Just that it's not surprising that cancer bankrupts people when many people are close to there to begin with.

I don't know if this is a compassionate point about inequality in America or (more likely since he's a Pub) "Stupid poors shouldn't get cancer."

"fucking amazing" ?

It depends on what your into honestly. If your into whitewater/rafting/camping/biking/hunting/fishing then there are few places better on the east coast. If you want to be in a frat, drink, and go to the bars 4 days and pull for a football team that isn't a joke it sucks. Also if you want a quality education it sucks.

Younger me just wanted to get stoned and be in whitewater.

Ok, fair enough. Why so many people are close to bankruptcy to begin with is a big issue.
