This fact may have already been offered but if not:

Lowest Career Winning Percentage Coaches with 300 or more games/significant time at a Power Conference School since 1970
1. Bob Bender Washington .467
2. Tony Barone Texas A&M .468
3. Les Robinson NCSU .469
4. Kevin O'Neill USC .472
4. Harry Miller Baylor .472
6. Steve Yoder Wiscy .475
7. Jeff [Redacted] WFU .479 (.409 without Air Force seasons)

With ten or so games remaining, Coach [Redacted] can join Coach Bender at #1 with one win in those games...quite a way to cap his college coaching career.

Quiet reflection...39 days.

Funny thing is, bob bender was on wellman's radar to replace odom.

Thought about that Rattler.
In fairness to most of these guys, they actually won 45% or so of their games WHILE coaching at the power conference school. The only three to win less than 40% while coaching at the high major schools were Barone at 39% over 196 games and Miller at 39% over 143 games. You can guess who is the final member of the inept trifecta of sub 40% and he has been allowed to perform at this remarkable level for 210 games.

A further look shows it's even worse.

Here are the career SRS ratings (from sports-reference.com) for each of those coaches. (0 is the average each year).

Bender: 4.07 (6.03 @Wash)
Barone: .96 (-.22 @TAM)
Les: -.75 (8.50 @State)
O'neill: 7.30 (6.56 @USC)
Miller: -2.71 (-1.36@Baylor)
Yoder: 4.56 (5.99 @Wiscy)

[Redacted]: 1.45 (1.32 @WFU)

Miller and Barone are the only two on [Redacted]'s level and they both coached at 2 dreadful SWC/Big 12 programs.

Coming into the season [Redacted] was tied for the worst record.

Seeing a state like this makes it unbelievable to me that it isn't a guarantee that he will be canned.

Buzz has moved "up" to #4 over the past 3 weeks! .472

Moving ahead of Barone and Miller for number one for games lost at the high majors...39% won.

If it weren't for Ron, Bz gets fired after one more awful year at Colorado, never gets another D1 job, and doesn't coach enough games to qualify for this list. Most of the credit should go to Wellman.

Has anyone researched the worst ACC coaches of all time? I would imagine 'old numbnuts is on the podium on that list, too.

Larry Shyatt (20-60) ACC record at Clemson

Les Robinson (28-66) ACC record at N.C. State

Bob Wade (7-35) ACC record at Maryland

Bob Staak (8-48) ACC record at Wake Forest

Banks McFadden went 1-36 in ACC games at Clemson from '54-56

Many of us knew the [Redacted] hire was a horrible decison 2-3+ years ago. How Ron Welllman made the decision and has continued to sing the praises of his friend for almost 4 years is incredible. It would not surprise me in the least for Wellman make the statement that [Redacted] is still under contract, has already won more games this year than last year, and will continue to be our coach in the forseeable future.

[Redacted] brings absolutely nothing positive to any discipline that would normally be expected from a head basketball coach. He has no media skills, he has no communications skills, he is a horrendous recruiter and could never close the deal on a significant recruit, he is a complete joke at fundraising, is detested by students and most supporters, and has an undeniable historically horrible record as a head coach.

Travis McKie looked like a can't miss All-ACC player as a freshman and [Redacted] has totally destroyed his will. Some may be critical of Travis, but most of us have been miserable with [Redacted] as a coach. I cannot imagine the amount of misery that has been inflicted on Travis over these past four years. Now we are seeing the same deteioration in Cody McIntyre and Devon Thomas. They are becoing more ineffective as time goes on - a direct result, in my opinion, of disliking the coach as much or more than most of us do.

Ron Wellman has taken his personal stake in the hirng and retention of Jeff [Redacted] and driven it right through the hearts of the players, students, and supporters.

With tonight's loss to Duke, our esteemed coach will move to number 4 on this prestigious list at .470. With 2 more losses in the next 8 days, he will join Coach Bender in a tie for number 1 in alltime ineptitude!!! The only remaining suspense is will he/should he step down before the ACC tourney in order to allow Bender to stand alone in the top spot. Of course, our man has already claimed the number one spot for his record at the high majors in Boulder and Winston Salem.

No way will Buzz step down. He is a record setter.

explains why he may indeed quit after senior night... pussy

Makes you wonder if Ron realized in developing his list for “ All the things that were asked of him”, it included: Building a Foundation that would easily crumble. Changing the Culture to one of losing. Not losing early in the post-season by not making the post-season. And now with this list……. Get into the Top 10 Coaching Losers since 1970. ?

Didn't Wellman have Bender on his short list in 2001?
