Tournament Players Championship

WGAF about this story anymore? sergio is a fucking douche and wasn't going to win this tournament. You play with Tiger and life's going to be a little more challenging; it has been for the past decade.

Didn't two marshals confirm that nothing was said? The handling of what should have been a minor incident has been awful by both guys.

Oh, I have no problem with Tiger pulling the 5 wood. I don't think he did anything wrong regardless of whether the marshals said anything to him or not.

I'm just not surprised in defending himself that he lied to do it....even though he didn't need to.

He would have come across so much better if he said that he pulled the club without thinking about it and was sorry if his action had any impact of Garcia's shot. But no, he had to lie about it to make it seem as if he did nothing wrong and someone else must be to blame.

The fact the marshal went as far as saying "lack of character" shows that guy has an agenda. If he didn't he would have said something, "I didn't say anything" or "he didn't ask". Jumping right to character makes me doubt anything he says.

Maybe because Tiger apparently lied about their job performance? Tiger makes it look like he asked before doing anything to distract Sergio and that the marshals are to blame.

Apparently there were both marshals and player escorts that wear the same uniforms but have different lanyards on. They hold up quiet signs and help moving crowds and holding folks back or whatever. There are plenty of other officials as well - who knows who he really talked to. From the replay they certainly didn't have the quiet signs up for Sergio's swing, so Tiger wasn't the only one who screwed up.

Gamesmanship. Pure and simple. The old guys did this sort of stuff all the time. Non story. Sergio needs to toughen up as evidenced by this and his collapse at 17.

In the "sergio's a bitch" argument........ The golf channel has been showing the split-screen of Tiger and Sergio during the shot. You hear the claps while he's still doing his waggle. He had probably 5 seconds to not swing if it was going to make him shit himself during the shot

I don't know about the old guys, but I certainly agree with the Sergio part. Sergio is one of the best ball strikers of the last twenty years, maybe more. The little twerp just KILLS the ball. But he has lacks character, guts, and mental toughness. Not to mention putting skills.

"The marshals, they told me he already hit, so I pulled a club and was getting ready to play my shot," Woods explained. "And then I hear [Garcia's] comments afterward, and it's not real surprising that he's complaining about something."

“Tiger had already taken his club, but we did tell him that Sergio had hit.”

The marshal defending Tiger isn't really helping his cause. It does explain why Tiger didn't apologize to Sergio, but Tiger still said he pulled a club after the marshal told him Sergio had hit, which is not true.
This is an incredibly overblown story, and it gives plenty of ammo for both the Sergio and Tiger haters to continue/strengthen their hate.

Exactly. The marshal "defending" Tiger is only supporting what the other marshals already said - no one told him Sergio hit before he pulled out his club.

I think this whole "story" confirms what we already knew about these two - Sergio's a whiny bitch and Tiger's a liar.

The marshals are just like the public. Some are Tiger haters and will call him a liar, some like Tiger and chalk it up to a mistake that's been blown out of proportion.

The first marshals were obviously full of shit - you can see Tiger talking to those guys when they were moving people around in preparation for his shot. The whole "we didn't talk to him, we never talk to players" thing made it obvious they had an agenda.

Then you have the actual marshal who told Tiger Sergio had already hit taking the blame - but he slips in that Tiger had already pulled a club before he said it. I doubt Tiger even watched coverage of the timing of the thing and doesn't give a shit - as he shouldn't. People clap for Tiger when he walks out of a bathroom - all he did was pull a 5 wood out of his bag.

The media is so excited about Tiger/Sergio animosity they're playing this up as much as possible. Right now golf has too many nice guys everyone likes winning tournaments. It's boring.

I am no Tiger fan, but, in this case, it is possible that Tiger pulled the club without ever thinking about the fact that people would react with noise. It was likely no big deal for him to decide to go with that club - just a normal decision/action. Like someone else said - that is all the explanation he had to give "I pulled the club without thinking that it might elicit a reaction. I would never do anything to interfere with another player's shot and hope it had no impact on Sergio - I hate that he feels that it did."

BTW, I wouldn't consider purposely causing noise during someone else's shot to be gamesmanship - that would be way beyond gamesmanship and into the realm of really bad etiquette. Gamesmanship is pulling out a rubber snake before someone hits or asking them not to putt out and to leave their mark on the green so you can aim at it.

I don't think it confirms Tiger is a liar. Just mistaken.

I doubt he was super focused on the exact order of seeming-less irrelevant events that occurred during the round. He was probably thinking about his next shot.

You need confirmation that Tiger is a liar?

In the years I've watched Tiger play I've never heard much reaction just because he pulls a club out of his bag. This incident is just much ado about nothing. Deal with Sergio and good luck with that pairing at Merion that we all know is coming. The USGA loves this shit.

Sergio could have a meltdown at Merion if he plays with Tiger. I could see Tiger hitting a 230 yard screaming 4 iron on a 370 yard Par 4 and smile as Sergio finds his ball in knee high rough. Then at the green Sergio four putts as Tiger knocks in a 25' birdie.

I'd love to see the epic meltdown that would occur on the way to the next tee.

If Tiger can't get it closer than 25 feet from 140 yards at Merion he will have bigger problems than Sergio.
