Trump Indicted

Trump's typical legal strategy is to delay everything, throw out wacky motions, etc. But since it's a criminal trial and he's required to be there for all of it, will they continue that strategy or try to get it over with? Like I feel like the jury selection process could take forever. But does he want to sit there the whole time for it?

Latest ploy is Trump 's attorneys saying that he doesn't have to be present. According to them, he isn't required to face his accusers in court. Seems like this gets appealed and causes delay.

If Trump announces that he isn't going to attend, doesn't show and Judge Merchan has him arrested and brought to court, does Trump appeal immediately? Can he legally? Does the trial proceed during such an appeal? Or would this be another avenue of delay?

Supreme Court oral arguments on Presidential Immunity happen soon, and Trump has said he wants to skip his trial in Manhattan to be at the SCOTUS building on that day.

If he doesn't have to be present, then he can go to Barron's graduation! Surely he'll be there.

My understanding is he doesn't have to be there, but the judge said he had to make up his mind if he would be there or not. He's not allowing Trump to come and go as he wants.

Which is good, because he's a felony defendant.

It’s just amazing that when he’s there (and awake) he acts worse than my fucking 4-year old but nothing ever happens other than him getting warned to be on his very best behavior or else.

Apparently, as part of the jury selection process, the judge reads aloud the tweets or online messages the prospective jurors have previously posted about Trump. This I believe is reason enough to require him to be present.

Other than jail, the biggest punishment I can think of for Fat'n'sleepy is that he have to attend Barron's graduation. He would hate every minute of that plus all of his other kids would hate him even more . Please let that happen.

I know why but it is incredible to me that he didn’t attend the graduations of any of his other 4 kids

Well this whole thing is about paying off a porn star so it’s pretty fucking stupid

The best one I saw is,

"Trump invites the Thai boys to the White House, and the boys request to return to their cave."

No, this whole thing is about covering up paying off a porn star.

Still pretty fucking stupid. Why wasn’t he on trial 3 years ago for what he tried to do in Georgia.

Pretty hard to argue against authoritarianism if we’re basically 4 years out of a blatant coup and our legal system can’t put the asshole away for it and instead the best we’ve got is a porn star payoff case

Ok but can we all at least admit that this is the weakest of the criminal cases. Altering business records would normally be a misdemeanor, but Bragg charged them as a felony because he says they were done in furtherance of a crime, but no other crime was charged. If these 34 counts were charged as misdemeanors there would be no jail time and Trump wouldn't be a potential felon. It does seem a bit like overreaching.

Also, if Trump gets off, which would take only 1 juror to say not guilty, Trump then can crow about total exoneration, and since this is likely to be the only one of his criminal cases to go to trial before election, he probably will keep saying, see this was all just a witch hunt, and people will believe him because he got off.

There are a bunch of reasons the Feds chose to not take this to trial. Its infuriating though that this is likely to be the only criminal case to happen before the election.

why won't Georgia go? massive delays? further appeals against the DA?

Georgia has another RICO case that has been sitting around for multiple years with no trial. No way this case is tried before the election.

I don’t understand the legal system but you can be accused of multiple felonies and just not show up at your own trial?
