It appears that she did in fact use it as a tactic to win the case she was involved in (if you believe Politico, which Palma does not, so he will need more info)

Yet it doesn't stop other politico articles to mention the allegations first and the recanting towards the end, nor the rest of the #fakenews to mention the allegations without the disclaimer, or the people like Sig above to just roll with it.
