Trump says America is closed for immigration

Just for good measure, John Kelly went off on this traditional racist rant.

"Let me step back and tell you that the vast majority of the people that move illegally into United States are not bad people. They're not criminals. They're not MS13," Kelly told NPR in an interview released late Thursday, referring to the criminal gang. "But they're also not people that would easily assimilate into the United States into our modern society."

The former secretary of the Department of Homeland Security said the undocumented immigrants don't speak English and are "overwhelmingly rural people" from countries where "fourth-, fifth-, sixth-grade educations are kind of the norm."

"They don't integrate well; they don't have skills. They're not bad people. They're coming here for a reason. And I sympathize with the reason. But the laws are the laws," he went on to say."

Hmmm...exactly the same was said about Italians, Germans, Irish and more. Racism lives in the WH!

i actually thought Kelly's interview this morning was pretty level headed. someone in the WH smart enough to leverage his credibility by allowing an interview w/ NPR to spruce up the image of the WH.

no, not really. in terms of tone and frankness in comparison to the rest of the communication coming from the WH.

im not sure i agree with his assessment about the average migrant's ability to assimilate but i don't find that particularly racist. it's not like he said "these migrants can't assimilate like the old germans and swedes"

Read up on American history. It's the exact statement used over and over again to keep other groups out and down.

"This is not the first time Kelly has espoused racist views about non-white immigrants. Earlier this year, during the debate around the fate of the DACA recipients, known as Dreamers, the Washington Post reported that the president's Chief of Staff said that some young immigrants eligible for protection under the program were "too lazy to get off their asses" and sign up.

Kelly later offered a different version of the same comment, insisting that eligible immigrants "just should've probably gotten off the couch and signed up."

"Kelly argued that it was an "inability to compromise that led to the Civil War."

i'm familiar with american history, thanks.

the point i was making was that the WH was shrewd in parading Kelly on NPR of all places. i said he sounded level-headed, you know, as opposed to Trump?

slow your roll

Sounds pretty elitist.

He sounded like a typical elitist, racist statement. It's exactly the same as Africaaners said about apartheid being "good" for "their" blacks.

It's sad that this country has come so far off the rails that you bend over backwards to justify clear and unambiguous racism.

lol ok

We can't support social security (both capital S and lower) or economic growth as we're accustomed to without a bigger influx of workers than we're birthing.
