US Companies Parking Profits Offshore Indefinitely

countries with lower tax rates and VATS put their domiciled companies on much more even footing with foreign companies either selling into the country or with operations in that country.

None of the G8 have lower personal taxes and all have huge VATs that would devastate our economy. It sounds like you want to give corporations huge cuts and have families pick up the tab.

Maybe what we should do is put a VAT on sales of companies that do business in the US but have HQs outside of the US or kedep money parked away from our taxes.

Yes, that's EXACTLY what he said.

RJ is conflating the arguments made against the Fair Tax replacing all income taxes, with the composition of corporate taxes. One thing he doesn't understand is that while the match isn't perfect, corporate taxes are all passed along to the consumer.

Not at all, if a company tries to evade US taxes they should be penalized.

Using the logic that all corporate taxes are paid by higher prices, then we should cut salaries because they are also paid by the consumer.

That entire post makes no sense whatsoever.

CL68, what would be some ways to make paying corporate taxes easier so corporations wouldn't have to spend so much money on figuring how to not pay taxes?

If we can offer a way to collect revenues that requires less overhead on the corporate end, maybe we can see a net increase?

Nor does he understand that our corporate tax policy is currently causing large companies to keep money out of our economy, limiting both investment as well as tax revenue. As the trend of companies abandoning their US Headquarters and/or hiding profits off-shore continues, who does he suppose picks up the tab in his oversimplified straw-man model he put together above?

What part makes no sense?

Part 1 - There should be a penalty set up for companies that move HQs to avoid US taxes. It's pretty simple.

Part 2 - If taxes are paid by consumers, so are all other costs. One way to help consumers would be across the board pay cuts.

It's pretty simply dumb as shit. LOL. Stay here or else! That's an effective go-forward policy for making sure that businesses set up shop anywhere but here.

Never mind the absurdity thinking you could come up with any sort of workable way to "prove" that X company bought Y company to avoid US taxes.

I'm sure it's fun to mock somebody for coming up with more penalties, but nobody is talking about the benefits we can offer to encourage companies to stay.

Or what's the stop the transaction from being structured where Tim Horton's buys Burger KIng but BK shareholders end up controlling the majority of acquiring company's shares. Then Tim Horton's changes their name to BK Worldwide, Inc.

We don't live in a communist country.

Structuring our tax system more like the rest of the first world?

Well, I am trying to understand what salaries have to do with taxes.

It's not that difficult.

If taxes are an expense that is paid by consumers, then it is perfectly logical to say all expenses paid by a company are paid by consumers. Salaries are an expense.

But salaries aren't controlled by government policy.
