Vox: Democrats are in Denial. Their Party is Actually in Deep Trouble

Thanks, can you sum up Carson's qualifications to be President?

The republicans need a black president to bridge the years between Obama and Kanye West.

Agree with the first paragraph on ACA. I said the same thing at the time. He lent his political capital to s far less popular institution and they wasted it. He should have put forth his own plan and sold it, ideally a piecemeal plan that would have been harder to attack.

As far as the second, what happens when there is no chance at consensus? Compromise is a dirty word. The basic stuff like the debt ceiling and nominees are full of drama. Enough Republicans believe Obama is working to destroy America that working with him hurts GOP politicians.

Dems losing so much statewide gives them a short bench nationally even though they have built in demographic advantages. Conversely alleged GOP heroes Brownback, Perry, and Walker are stiffs who crashed and burned. Brownback and Walker didn't even make it to the starting line in Iowa.

Until the fever breaks, it's all about the SCOTUS. Despite gerrymandered districts, Tea Party only has 40 seats (10% of the House). Without the Tea Party, GOP House needs 29 Dems to pass anything. Much worse in the Senate where they don't have 60, let alone 67 votes.

Neither party has a great hand, but presidency and SCOTUS matter most with congressional gridlock.

Obama should have actually supported a liberal health care reform plan like what he campaigned on.

This article on Bernie made a similar point.

It got me thinking that we may be witnessing a fundamental shift in check and balances. The article points out that conservative Democrats in the Senate made it difficult for Obama to exercise his agenda even with a super majority and far right Republicans in the House makes things difficult for the rest of the party. Take that a step further with the gridlock sure to exist in Congress and the fact that demographics favor a Democrat in the White House and a significant Republican majority in House. It seems like there is little chance of Congress accomplishing anything. Instead of the President working with Congress, we will likely see the President "working with" the Supreme Court and using executive orders as deemed Constitutional by SCOTUS. This means nominations will become that much more divisive and any chance of a Democrat agenda relies on getting a majority of justices.

It's kind of a doomsday theory but it's hard to see Congress working for either side going forward.

How is a Democrat favored to win the White House? Real Clear Politics currently has Ben Carson and Jeb Bush beating Hillary Clinton in a head to head match up, and Donald Trump two points behind but within the margin of error. You can find that at www.realclearpolitics.com

What has actually happened is that Democrats have gone too far to the left, and they are about to bottom out and lose at every level. The 1996 Democratic Party platform is a dead giveaway of how far gone they are:

1996 Democratic Party Platform said:
Today's Democratic Party also believes we must remain a nation of laws. We cannot tolerate illegal immigration and we must stop it. For years before Bill Clinton became President, Washington talked tough but failed to act. In 1992, our borders might as well not have existed. The border was under-patrolled, and what patrols there were, were under-equipped. Drugs flowed freely. Illegal immigration was rampant. Criminal immigrants, deported after committing crimes in America, returned the very next day to commit crimes again.

1996 Democratic Party Platform said:
Over the past four years, President Clinton has dramatically transformed the welfare system. He has freed 43 states from federal rules and regulations so they can reform their welfare systems. The Clinton Administration has granted 77 waivers -- more than twice as many waivers as granted in the Reagan-Bush years. For 75 percent of all Americans on welfare, the rules have changed for good already, and welfare is becoming what it should be: a second chance, not a way of life. Welfare rolls are finally coming down -- there are 1.8 million fewer people on welfare today than there were when President Clinton took office in January 1993.

1996 Democratic Party Platform said:
Tough punishment. We believe that people who break the law should be punished, and people who commit violent crimes should be punished severely. President Clinton made three-strikes-you're-out the law of the land, to ensure that the most dangerous criminals go to jail for life, with no chance of parole. We established the death penalty for nearly 60 violent crimes, including murder of a law enforcement officer, and we signed a law to limit appeals. The Democratic Party is a party of inclusion, and we respect the conscience of all Americans on this issue.

I honestly don't know what the Democrats are going to do when they wake up in January 2017 and realize that they don't control any level of government. The worst part is the fact that they are completely in denial.

Posts 1996 Democratic Party Platform.

Says the wife of the 1996 Democrat President is going to lose.

As far as what Democrats will do in January 2017, if Trump or Carson is President?

What's up?

That Joe Biden (the Sarah Palin of the Democratic party) has thrown his hat in the ring makes this election even more troubling. We still have a Clinton and a Bush....throw in Trump and Biden, and this is little more than another really bad reality show. If Lamar Odom recovers in time I may just vote for him. He would probably then pardon OJ.

Biden and dipshit Palin dont belong in the same conversation

It's not being generous to Palin. Uncle Joe barely graduated at the bottom of his class in a tier 3 law school and then failed in his bid for the White House in 1988 because he got caught up in a plagiarism scandal.

This video basically summarizes his entire career:

This is not the hill you want to die on

"After graduating from high school in 1982, Palin enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.[25] Shortly after arriving in Hawaii, Palin transferred to Hawaii Pacific University inHonolulu for a semester in the fall of 1982, and then to North Idaho College, a community college in Coeur d'Alene, for the spring and fall semesters of 1983.[26] She enrolled at theUniversity of Idaho in Moscow for an academic year, starting in August 1984, then attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska in the fall of 1985. Palin returned to the University of Idaho in January 1986, and received her bachelor's degree incommunications with an emphasis in journalism in May 1987.[26][27][28][29]"

Often we see people who have their "educational credentials" far surpass their intelligence. Obama is a prime example.

When did Glen Rice hit it?

If Palin's "education" is irrelevant (it's not) you shouldn't have brought up Biden's. Sarah Palin is a political joke of the highest magnitude. She makes women look bad and she makes Americans look bad. Her greatest accomplishment is abandoning her governorship and having a pregnant teenage daughter.
