“Wake Forest Hires David Duke’s Pastor to be New Chaplain”
Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends of Wake Forest:
Can you imagine the public outcry if the above had been an actual news story? There would be protests, editorials and emergency meetings of the faculty senate. Donors would be demanding that their contributions be returned. There would be debates, forums, hearings and more to assess what had gone wrong with the University and its leadership.
We are loyal Wake Forest Alumni. And it is with a heavy heart that we feel the need to write to you about this matter. But the Wake Forest we remember is an institution based on the free and open debate of ideas and we cannot sit idly by and watch as what we hold dear is denigrated and devalued.
The above headline is not a hypothetical scenario. What is being ignored/condoned by the current administration is actually worse than what the above headline depicts. In fact, it’s much worse.
Several years ago, Wake Forest hired its first Muslim chaplain. No one is taking issue with the University providing its Muslim students with the same sort of spiritual support enjoyed by others. As we all know, Wake Forest was founded as a religious school. But Wake Forest did a dangerous disservice to its students, its alumni and its reputation by whom they hired to fill that position. As you can see by the below FACT sheet, the first Muslim chaplain of Wake Forest is Imam Khalid Griggs, a self-avowed Shariah supremacist and jihadist.
Imam Griggs is not your average cleric. Imam Grigg’s background is disturbing and problematic, to put it mildly. The Imam is a jihadist. His Islamic Movement Motto, while only six lines long, contains the following: “Jihad, all out struggle, is our means.” He is also an active supporter of Sharia Law – the theocratic doctrine that says Islamic law supersedes the U.S. Constitution and that actively subjugates and denigrates the value and rights of women, infidels and homosexuals. We believe such disregard for basic human rights and equality should be exposed and debated, not hidden.
With the hiring of Imam Griggs and the knee-jerk political correctness that shields him, Pro Humanitate has come under attack, and his presence has and will continue to damage the integrity and reputation of our fine University.
We are asking for an open and fair debate on whether the Imam’s Shariah ideology is compatible with or contradicts American Constitutional Principles. Kahlid Griggs’ background and work as an active supporter of Sharia and Jihad should be a part of such a debate.

Withhold all contributions you had planned to give to Wake Forest until they hold the debate. Nothing gets a university administration’s attention like money.

We know we are making ourselves a target for the “political correctness” enforcers, but it is a risk we feel is necessary and one that we willingly accept in order to preserve Wake Forest and be true to its Pro Humanitate mission. PPS: The Wake Forest Alumni Council on Feb. 10th sent an email to all alumni notifying them that this email you are reading would be forthcoming and characterized this letter as “confusing.” It also failed to deny even one of the facts below and in it Imam Griggs tacitly acknowledges being a supporter of Jihad and Shariah, but says Truth at Wake Forest, Inc is misinterpreting these terms. We adhere to the definitions expressed by all four schools of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence, as published in authoritative Islamic texts in English, and Imam Griggs espouses the definitions set out by CAIR (the propaganda arm of Hamas in the U.S.), which were recently created for western media consumption.
Additionally, in response to our request for a debate, Wake Forest instead held a one-sided lecture on Islamophobia in Wait Chapel on March 2nd. Only Imams from North Carolina and their friends spoke, approximately 200 people attended, and questions were not taken directly from the audience but instead had to be submitted in writing, then culled and only friendly questions answered. A similar one-sided lecture is planned on “Jihad” for April 7th. That isn’t education, it is indoctrination.
The FACTS about Imam Kahlid Griggs
Imam Griggs is an avowed and demonstrable Shariah supremacist and an advocate of Jihad. What does that mean? It means that to Griggs, strict Islamic Shariah doctrine supersedes the laws of any government, from the Magna Carta to the U.S. Constitution. Shariah is the same violent doctrine shared by such groups as ISIS (ISIL) and Al-Qaeda. And Jihad, meaning any and all types of warfare against non-muslims, is an acceptable means to enforce the Shariah.
Griggs tries to keep a low public profile regarding his beliefs and associations, but one does not have to look very far to find clear and disturbing facts. The following information, in much greater detail and with extensive documentation, was given to Wake Forest President Nathan Hatch along with a request for an open discussion and debate on whether Imam Grigg’s Shariah ideology was compatible with not only American principles, but with basic human rights as well. President Hatch refused all requests.
It is hard to believe the University’s administration did any sort of due diligence before hiring Griggs. For if they had, they would have easily discovered the following disturbing information:
Imam Griggs’ Islamic Movement Motto is only six lines, the fifth one being “Jihad, all out struggle is our means.” (page 66 of the Daw’ah of IPNA) Think about that…Wake Forest has a paid assistant Chaplain (one of only two) that believes Jihad (war against non-muslims) is the way to establish an Islamic Caliphate. This is really all you need to know about this man, but there is a lot more.
Griggs is a 30 plus year member and officer of the Islamic Party of North America (IPNA). IPNA is a radical Muslim group which stressed “the need for Muslims in the United States to separate from mainstream society in order to form a ‘sovereign’ Muslim-American community governed by the shari'a, or Islamic law and ethics.” (From the Encyclopedia of Muslim-American History.)
Imam Griggs and his group were given $100,000 by Libya’s now deceased dictator, Mohammar Qaddafi, for a headquarters house in Washington D.C. so that IPNA could spread the Muslim Brotherhood’s and the “Ayatollah Khomeini’s (of 1979 Iran Hostage fame) Revolutionary Islamic political and social thoughts” throughout the United States. In 1978, Imam Griggs traveled to Libya with IPNA for the Zionism is Racism Conference hosted by Qaddafi. (From the History of IPNA as written by Imam Griggs)
Imam Griggs has been a leader, officer and long-standing member of the Muslim Brotherhood organization called the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), where he is Chairman of the Council for Social Justice. ICNA’s charter supports plans for Islam to overthrow of the United States, capitalism and all secular Western nations. Griggs speaks annually at the ICNA/MAS convention. MAS (Muslim American Society) is a designated terrorist organization by the UAE (United Arab Emirates).
Griggs is a member of the Shura Council for the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA), an organization co-founded and led by Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.
“It's very important to understand that the parameters of dress for Muslim women and Muslim men are parameters that were established by the creator of the universe, by Allah, and those parameters do not change….So Muslim women cannot change whatever fashion trend is predominating here in this country or anywhere else because it would be a violation of what has been established as a dress code for the women.” Imam Khalid Griggs (12/4/11). This was the Imam’s answer when asked why women should be forced to cover up all of their skin in public (wear burkas). The same Shariah that Griggs says is unchanging from the 8th century with regard to women covering their entire bodies also advocates the stoning to death of homosexuals, female genital mutilation and restrictions and prohibitions preventing women from divorcing, holding property, voting or even driving a car.
Despite this and much more information, neither President Hatch nor anyone in his administration would even meet to discuss our concerns about giving someone with these radical views a position of moral leadership at Wake Forest. We also offered to arrange a meeting and/or debate with a distinguished panel of national security experts (including a former Attorney General of the U.S., a former Director of the CIA and the former Asst. US Attorney General who prosecuted the first World Trade Center bombing). Instead, our request was met with open hostility and personal invective.
This is no way to run a distinguished University and is far beyond the bounds of the Wake Forest tradition of open, honest discussion. It makes a mockery of Wake’s motto: “Pro Humanitate” and violates the core function of any University – the debate and discussion of the great issues of the day. Shariah supremacism is roiling the world and Wake Forest refuses to even discuss it, while tacitly endorsing it.
