I'd think that if you were so inclined, you could swat it out of the back of the endzone.
Exactly what just went through my mind. What if a player knows it is going to sit inside the ten and "muffs" the punt catch out through the back of the endzone? They still get the ball at the 20?
Seems a silly rule. I've always thought a muffed punt was a fumble.
