Some of those big state schools require all students to pay an athletics fee of multiple $100s per. At some schools in VA, the fee can be over $1000 yes over one thousand dollars per year.
NCAA estimated nearly $800 million per year total at 222 public institutions was collected in 2008-2009 academic year. This number has most likely increased over the years.
As an example, UGA charges $53 per semester for athletic fee. $106 per year x 29k undergrads = $3 million+ per year, or potentially $15 million of UGAs football revenue over the five year study period.
If Towson were included, they might be ahead of Wake because they charge almost $1000 per year per student (22,000 total students) in athletic fees. That would be over $20 million per year and $100 million over five years.
