On your way south, stop at OBX Brewing Station (on your right as you pass through Kill Devil Hills - look for the giant windmill). Great beers brewed on location. If you happen to still be hungry, their Crab Bisque and Shrimp & Grits (both small portions) are awesome.
There's also Biscuits & Porn in Nags Head. No, I'm serious. Even if you don't like biscuits or porn (weirdo) they sell t-shirts. You'll be the only one in Boston with one!
Of course, there's also the Wright Brothers museum in Kill Devil Hills if that's more your speed.
