Traveling to Columbia, MO to catch a Mizzou football game in October...any thoughts on Columbia and cool places to eat drink and be merry while there?

The football team is called the Gamecocks. 5 points is the bar area for college kids. The Vista is more young professionals and classier restaurants and bars. I like Miyos an Asian place that's good. Go Cocks!

Make sure to catch all the porn and fireworks billboards along the poorly-maintained highway and get yourself a high-quality walnut bowl. The meth is cheap and plentiful as well.

And Shakespeare's pizza.

SC troll?

Anyway, I've only passed through COLA in MO but go to Flat Branch Pub and Brewery - its a pretty cool place especially if its nice outside. Lots of microbrews.

my experience with columbia, mo: we stayed at la quinta and my dog peed in the elevator.

I've been there once, agree about the microbrews. Drink lots of beers

I was there in 1983 for the OU game so I can't tell you much other than it being an awful experience. I think the final was 13-0 Mizzou.

Somebody mentioned Shakespeare's Pizza. I think that's the place to hit when you're there. I also hope Mizzou fans have been somewhat humbled now that they are mediocre at best again and don't have the Big XII North to beat up on. They used to be some of the worst fans in the BXII, along with Colorado and Taco Tech.

ETA: My bad, the final that year was 10-0 Mizzou.

I used to live there. Flat Branch is awesome. Get an Oil Change and the buffalo meatloaf.

Agree with everyone on Shakespeare's pizza, very good. That's all I got. The airport sucks.

Lots of people, or it would be a ghost town.

You aren't flying into CoMO are you? Fly into KC or StL, either one is about 2 hrs away. If you want to eat where the students eat, go to shakespeares (as others have said). Late night drunk food? El Rancho. I'll ask my sibs (mizzou alums) for other recs

Bring your own sheep. All the good looking local ones are already taken.

thanks for suggestions...we are flying into Kansas City and are currently debating whether to just spend friday night in KC and then drive to columbia saturday morning for the game.

Drink at the International Tap House - a very close friend of mine is the manager and you'll get a terrific selection of beer from a guy who really, really knows his stuff. (and he's an internet nerd, so he'll be totally cool about meeting people who are "friends of someone I know from a message board").

I had fun at Harpo's, but that was like 20 years ago. My sister worked there, so the free drinks probably make it better.
