For basketball only:

The basis for this question: If you were a basketball coach, what are the best 25 coaching positions in America in your opinion? Try to take a holistic approach to this question. Consider all possible factors, such as:

1. Ability to consistently win
2. Ability to win championships
3. Location for Recruiting
4. Geographic Factors / Climate
5. Family Factors
6. Tradition / History of Program
7. Financial Factors
8. Media and Fan Base Pressure
9. Conference the team plays in
10. Media Coverage
11. Size of University

What would your top 25 be?

For the "brand" (tradition and the recruiting advantages that come with it), Kentucky and UNC have to be near the top. But those 2 teams have to be near the bottom in terms of fan base pressure -- 1 losing season and you're the most hated person in that state.

The Top 6 don't matter who is coaching:

KY
Duke
UNC
Kansas
Indiana
UCLA

The next group:

Louisville
Michigan State
Ohio State
Arizona
Marquette may be in this group or not- They have a history of solid coaches and spend money on them.

Can't decide because I believe the coach is the most important:

Georgetown
Syracuse (let's see after Boeheim leave)
Florida (sucked before Billy D- may suck after)

The rest of the Top 25 is a crap shoot.

The previous coach lead Florida to a Final Four.

Kruger also didn't make The Dance four out of his six years there. Tell the whole story.

My definition of "suck" has changed immensely ever since [Redacted] became our coach.

I really do not believe Wake is in the top 25. I'd have to do more research to see if they historically are, but I think they are closer to 35 than 25.

And Norm Sloan only made it 3/9 years at Florida.

I'd say Billy D will be there for the next twenty years of so.

Think both Wake and Maryland are being underrated on these lists if for no other reason than the strength and depth of their local recruiting bases.

tennessee? are you ranking women's programs? oh doofus... if only tubby smith was a good bench coach, amirite?

NC is in top 5 - if it was number one there's no way DOH ever gets that gig

That was Numbers.

You are correct though, Tennessee was not a good choice, but I did all of them of the top of my head. I forgot Memphis, so I guess I'll throw them in there instead.

Doh got the job because he was a good young coach and IN THE FAMILY. Roy turned them down at first. Even if UNC is a better program than Kansas, you can't blame someone for not jumping from one program to the other.

Kansas is the hard one if one takes seriously geographic/climate and recruiting location. Move Wake to Kansas and Kansas to Winston-Salem. Within two years Kansas would have a national championship and Wake would be D-II.

They ride on the Naismith rep.
