Notes From the Inside

His Xs & Os were better than Skip & Dino. Several ACC coaches even said Wake's offense was best run in the league.

His faults:
Recruiting
Motivator
Public Relations

Those are three pretty big minuses.....

No ACC coach has ever said seriously that Bz ran the best offense in the league.

Several turned into one rather quickly.

And can you verify that quote?

Wake's offense was #1 in the country in 2003-2004, and 2004-2005 per efficiency metrics. In fact, the 2004-2005 was the best offense in the country in the last ten years, only finally being topped this season by Creighton.

So, yeah.

AD spin is spin. This isn't directed at us, it's the non-posters and 81's of the world that they are hoping to persuade. [Redacted] was a complete ass hole to Dan Collins on more than one occasion. He's not a nice guy.

Half court offense was as bad, at best, and far worse at worst.

Time hasn't been kind to Dino (and he had much better talent), but Buzz is every bit as bad, if not much worse, in terms of half court offensive sets.

Meh. [Redacted] isn't good at drawing up and completely sucks at teaching offensive sets but Dino simply had no sets. He just threw the ball out there and had the players figure it out. That offense was better but that was a result of talent not offensive set design.

Not having to read made-up bullshit rumors on here after Buzz's firing will almost be as good as Buzz's firing itself.

I have no idea what is being said inside the program. However, I do think that our half-court offensive scheme has been better this year than it was under the previous two coaches. It is difficult to run a half-court offense without high percentage 3 pt. shooters and/or a big man who dominates the middle. Plus we did not have a true power forward. Our personnel deficiencies were enough to wreck any half-court offense.

Do we seriously have people on this board who are going to break down if there is not a player revolt before Bz is fired? Let it go. Bz couldn't win. The entire world, or at least the 2000 who care, knows that.

Leave the players alone and start worrying about the Wake admin and who they hire.

Validation is probably not necessary at this point.

I agree, but 75% of Buzz's offense was to toss the ball around the perimeter for 30 seconds and hope CMM could find a look with

It's not spin. I've heard from multiple folks in the AD that Bz is the nicest person. They love him. Bz is just a dick to those he perceives as the enemy...you know, fans and beat writers.

Ha. That's bz's fault too. Somehow I'm reminded of watching Tanner try to run the option.

Totally agree. Players can enjoy playing for a better coach or they can move on. Not one player or recruit I'm losing sleep over.

True. When comparing no offensive sets and pretty shifty offensive sets, the real loser is Wake fans everywhere. I do have to credit Bz for one incredible talent he has...he makes me pine for the days of Dino as coach and I was opposed to Dino's hiring from the onset.

Who cares what the spin is? The only thing that matters is that he is no longer our coach and he is no longer a representative of WFU. Even with Wellman making the choice, it is basically impossible to do worse. If Skip were still alive, coaching the DEACS, and had achieved the same win/loss record as [Redacted] during the last four years, I definitely wouldn't feel the same way as I do now about [Redacted]. Skip inspired confidence in his players and Wake fans. If we had a bad stretch, he would have assured us that we would be good again - and we would have believed him. We would have felt good about him as the leader of our student-athletes. We would have felt good about him as a representative of our school. It sucks that the DEACS have had such a staggering run during the last few years. However, this issue is bigger than our win/loss record or who coaches our team.

#Buzzout from now until the press conference, press release, or whatever method our Supreme Leader chooses to inform us about the future of the program.

This. Put a muzzle on it, guys. Lectro's post may seem far-fetched, but it's certainly pawsible. At the very least, I'm sure the players are having a ruff time of it, even if they had to know Bzz was on a short leash coming into the year. Bzz is slinking away with his tail between his legs; who cares if they throw him a bone as he goes? The only thing I would care about is transfer talk, but I'm confident that will be more bark than bite.

Some of you just seem to be piling on because you have a bone to pick with Lectro. While he was fabulously and famously wrong about Buzzy, what need is there to rub his nose in it? I'm sure he's licking his chops, as we all are, to find out who the new coach will be. With so few premier openings this year, we should have our pick of the litter among the up-and-comers. With so much at stake, I'm confident Wellman won't get thrown off the scent this time. So let's all sit back and enjoy the search, and let sleeping dogs lie.
