2018-2019 NHL Thread – Thunderstorm Warning

He'll have the pressure of "nothing is ever Crosby's fault" so he'll be in the media's crosshairs if Pittsburgh has any trouble this season.

From my dealings with the locals in Pittsburgh (and its a lot...unfortunately) that sentiment is changing. I heard a lot more criticism of Crosby this year than any past.

I am hearing that the Caps just acquired American Hero T J Oshie....

For a team that was supposedly taking it easy this offseason the Caps have already made some big moves.

NHL’s expansion process comes at inopportune time for KC hockey fans

As soon as Monday, the official bids will start popping in at the NHL’s office in New York.

So what do we think, Vegas and Seattle? You would think a second team in Toronto and a team in Quebec City would make more money. I'd love to know the league's thought process in all of this. (I assume the thought process for Toronto is "MLSE would be angry.")

Edit: I generally am not a big fan of parents filming their children crying and posting it on the internet, but this one turned out pretty OK.

Sad little T.J. Oshie fan gets surprise call, asks about his swimming pool (Video)

Seattle makes sense. Vegas baffles me. That's a town where the team better be damned good or people will find other things to do.

And here we go:

First step in NHL expansion process underway

The NHL began distribution of application materials for parties interested in expansion on Monday. They are due back to the league by August 10. The fee to apply for an expansion franchise is seven figures - north of $1 million U.S. - and only a portion is refundable.

On top of that, interested parties must demonstrate the ability to pay an expansion fee north of $500 million, prove the viability of their proposed market and evidence the availability of an arena for the team to call home.

And now it is St. Louis' turn to bash a star after he's traded:

Bernie: Blues will be better off without Oshie

never really understood Oshie’s elevated status here, and the star treatment that came with it. Not that this was all Oshie’s doing, but he personified the Blues’ celebrity culture, and the attitude of self-entitlement that permeated the locker room at times.

Oshie wasn’t the most disciplined player early in his Blues years. He matured off the ice but never reached his full potential as a player. The overrated Oshie had one 20-goal season here, missed nearly 20 percent of the Blues’ games over his seven seasons, never evolved into a leader, and fell into the shadows with teammates who vanished under extreme postseason pressure.

The Blues might be the last team I think of as having a "celebrity culture." If Oshie hadn't done what he did in the Olympics they'd easily be (and still might be) the most anonymous good team in the league.
