CT 178: The thrill is gone

in case you guys don't read the politics board, this was posted in earnest today

I think Hollywood has gone out of its way in recent years to cast minorities in roles that they would not have seriously been considered for 20 years ago. I think they have done this for various reasons, including a desire to make more money by appealing to minority viewers and a desire to be more "politically correct" so they can feel good about themselves. In the little that I have read about hiring practices in the movie business (which I have done in the context of my employment practice), it is obvious that race-based hiring is going on, with respect to both (1) whites still getting the best roles and (2) minorities getting more roles than they have historically. So it's really just adorable for someone to claim that Hollywood just holds auditions and the best actor gets the role. That is not what is going on. At all.

Fair Lunch report: great success. Only catch is that the 2 entrances where you can get a Fair Lunch Pass are located the furthest away from the parking lot, which is stupid. Going to have to write to the Commish about that. Otherwise, I had some fried pimento cheese triangles and a polish sausage with peppers and onions and a shitload of mustard. Wife had a Philly cheesesteak eggroll thing and a roasted corn on the cob. I wanted to get the tractor ice cream, but it was too far away for me to get there and get out by the 1:30 expiration for the lunch pass. So maybe I go back TOMORROW.

i think my office is going for lunch tomorrow, but we've heard horror stories about traffic getting out. what was your experience today? good? bad? ugly?

Traffic was easy. Just enter PNC Arena via Edward's Mill Rd, go straight, and park next to Carter-Finley. That's where the free parking is anyway. You avoid all the mess on Blue Ridge and Hillsborough. It is a loooooooong walk though from there to Gate 9, which is the one closest to the Blue Ridge/Trinity intersection, and where you have to go to get the Lunch Pass. Wear comfortable shoes. Get a Fry Me Over the Moon and enjoy the deliciousness of a 2700 calorie dessert.

So what happens if you don't leave before the pass expires? Do you have to stay and become a carny?

One thing I observed last night at the fair is that all the carneys have the same 5 pack a day voice, even the women. It's much like my own. Own. Oh-n. Oh-we-n. OWENNNNN. OWENNNNNNNNN. (coughcoughcoughhackalung)

the invasion of the bball recruiting thread brings back fond memories of the invasion of the Tulane Boards
