Season long College football thread

If UNC beats Clemson, they are in. I don't see any way the committee takes a Power 5 team that didn't even make their conference championship game over a one loss team that won theirs.

I don't see any chance UNC gets in with their schedule this year of a loss to a bad SC & 2 1AA teams. No way I can see Bama losing to Florida as the Gators just can't score. So it will be at least be OK for sure, Mich St/Iowa winner and Bama. And if Stanford can get by an ever improving USC team, they will get in as a 2 loss PAC 12 champ over 1 loss UNC with their SOS.

We just need to have Clemson make this a moot point but their schedule & wins are not all that impressive either to make me think that Clemson will have an easy time with Carolina's potent offense. They open as only a 6 point favorite also where Bama has opened as a 17 point favorite.

This post is proof positive that if UNC beats Clemson, they are in.

As most of us, UNC hater here, since the 1960's. However, I'm also logical. If UNC beats Clemson, I cannot see how OSU would get in before them. Conference champion whose best win (#1 Clemson) exceeds OSU's best win (Michigan, a team whose best win of the season was over Northwestern). Logic dictates UNC goes. If not, might as well go back to the BCS. Only way OSU should get in is if both Bama and Clemson lose, then it should be Oklahoma, Michigan State, UNC, and Stanford/OSU. And in that scenario, if Stanford is a conference champ, I still think OSU sits.

Agreed. What's Ohio state's argument going to be? UNC lost to a bad team? Didn't Ohio State do the exact same thing last year (lost to VT in the first game) and still make the final four?

navy helmets next week vs army will feature different ships for each position group

Interesting concept, but I'll reserve judgment until I see them on the football field and not an aircraft carrier deck.

If navy beat Houston last weekend, what would have happened with the army navy game? Or is the game 2 weeks away?

Are they going to argue that UNC-CH couldn't have beaten Northern Illinois by 7 ?

Possibly. That exact same scenario happened in 2004.

Auburn became the first team in NCAA history to defeat five top 10 ranked teams in the same season. Oklahoma only beat one top 10 team that season.

However, Oklahoma was chosen over Auburn to play USC in the Championship game because of their strength of schedule was somehow better!

The committee at the time apparently thought Auburn would have struggled with Bowling Green, 4-8 Houston and 6-6 Oregon more than LaTech, LaMonroe and Citadel.

I agree with your logic though. Better wins are more impressive.

I think the reason Ohio St got in over TCU last year was the simple fact that most thought they were one of the 4 best teams and would beat TCU head to head if they played. I don't think many will think that UNC is definitely one of the top 4 teams and that they would beat Ohio St if they played. Plus, Ohio St. is the defending champ. Pretty harsh not getting a chance to defend your title because of one 3 point loss. UNC may be chosen, but those are good arguments for Ohio St. IMO.

I'm sure it won't come into play, but if I were the NCAA, I wouldn't want a school playing for a championship that is the author of the most egregious academic cheating scandal in history. I would fear a lot of bad publicity leading up to and to some extent extending a shadow over the games. Hopefully, if UNC does get in, Real Sports and others will again do stories on the "school".
