Tar Holes NOA from the NCAA

I didn't take many identity studies classes in my day. Where are you going to watch the game on Saturday?

ETA: A department chair that was criminally charged? Yes. Yes I did blame him. I'm quirky like that.

That's cute. You're not this naive about bureaucracy, so drop the act.

I'm going to watch at my apartment. You're welcome to stop by if you're in the area.

My only consolation is that one of two institutions will go down: NCAA or UNC.

If the NCAA goes light on UNC, public opinion and member institutions will be wagging their finger at them if not outright mocking them.

Low ratings of a UNC Championship game would be a shot across the bow of the NCAA.

Neither will happen, sadly.

Mark Emmert said today that an amended NOA should be sent to UNC within 4 weeks. I don't think the NCAA would amend the NOA unless they found additional Level 1 or Level 2 infractions.

The amended NOA should restart a process that should lead to the announcement of penalties within 8-9 months. So best guess is January.

So we should expect the penalties after they win another coastal crown? F the NCAA

Okay. Would that include admitting an academically unprepared student because he happened to be good a basketball?

Not if he meets NCAA standards for admission. However, it would be cheating if a bogus curriculum that breaks the University's guidelines is created to keep that player eligible.

Very interesting twitter follow for those following the UNC scandal

Apparently, he's on a compliance staff at another school and thinks that the original Notice of Allegations has been amended to include now 6 Level 1 violations (was 5).

GTHC GTH!

Additional rumors are that the 6th L1 violation is for "academic fraud".

And that has been said before, but it hasn't happened so far. For NCAA credibility it needs to happen, but...

Oh I think the major reason it will occur is NCAA credibility issues. I think the Syracuse/UNC Final Four matchup was really poor publicity as well.

Yeah, the ACC cheaters matchup in the national semifinals was a field day for commentators.

We may very well witness the death of the NCAA on this. If they choose not to hit UNC with harsh sanctions, they will lose any credibility. If they come down too hard, UNC is one of the few schools big enough to lead a break away from the NCAA.

If the NCAA really has enough evidence to come down hard on UNC, I'm not sure many if any schools would follow them in a break away attempt. Most schools want to appear that they are "following the rules." Following a breakaway lead by UNC just after they get hammered as a major rule breaker (5, or is it now 6 level 1 infractions) that is also on probation by the academic accrediting body would not be a good scenario for most, if not all other schools. A break away UNC would probably be ostracized.

IMHO, if a breakaway from the NCAA were to happen, it would have to be lead by a group of schools (probably a conference) that had reasonably clean records, strong influence on other colleges, good finances, and multiple gripes with the NCAA. I don't have any candidates, just a description of what it would take.

As a State fan and Grad, i'm more than cool if UNC breaks away and looses it's accreditation in the process. Go right ahead.
