WF Tennis (WS Open Starts Saturday)

How common is this cheating in tennis?

I've played and watched a lot of junior tennis. I've never seen anything like what AnonymousDeac describes, though it's an awesome story and I have no doubt it happened! Bad calls occur, and usually not because the player is intentionally cheating. The ball is obviously coming really fast and oftentimes the calls are just difficult to make. I remember last year the New York Times had a simple computer program prior to Wimbledon where you could test your ability to be a line judge, and it was just really difficult on some to make the correct call.

That's interesting. It seemed to me from the message I got from a former Wake player that intentionally cheating in college tennis is, and I quote, "rampant."

You can't really blatantly cheat in college because there is a chair umpire watching the entire match and can over rule any call he/she deems incorrect. Plus, after a certain number of over rules you lose a point, then game, and then the match.

That's good to hear. Maybe he had some bad experiences or something. If there's a chair umpire watching the whole match why even bother having the players call it?

Indeed. That's what surprised me about his loss to OU. I felt he just lost it mentally in that match.

He didn't lose to OU though. He was down, and certainly may have lost, but it was 4-5 in the second set when the match concluded.

Mansouri is playing Alex Rybakov, the ITA freshman of the year. Rybakov is really playing well.

Mansouri is on serve in the second. Looks like they are stopping play because of rain. His opponent pulled an aggressive move and went to a tank top.

Great win for Skander. Rybakov is a great player, and it came down to Wake and TCU for him, so nice to get some revenge.

With the win today, Petros earned all-american status. This is also the first time ever Wake has had two players in the round of 16.
