Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

Nah, it was really cool to see a guy like Hurley win. And nice to see Vijay back in contention and Bill having a nice tournament. The Quicken Loans may not always draw a ton of big names, but when they play it at Congressional, that's 1 of the better tour stops.

Reminds me too much of Bobby Hurley. Fuck him !

Billy Hurley: went to the Naval academy, served his country for 4 years, adopted a son, works with several charities.

Bobby Hurley: goofy whiner that played for coach K at Duke, like so many others.

Really not seeing anything that should make anyone remind them of each other.

I don't think it normally follows the US Open which no doubt hurt the field this year. I assume it follows the US Open this year because of the effects of the Olympics?

Correct, the event up in Hartford usually follows the US Open, but they got moved to the first week of August this year (last event before the Olympics, just after the PGA Championship) in the reconfigured schedule.

I think it fits better right after the US Open. Most folks don't play Memphis. Doing it in July is worse because it's usually right before the Scottish and Open.

I generally like your posts but Vijay, really? Guy is a long standing cheater and horribly unlikable

I've always liked Vijay, and he's the hardest working man in the game. Has occasionally said controversial things others have thought but wouldn't say and doesn't get along with the media, but from what I've read, gets along well with other players and has a good sense of humor. Aside from an alleged incident when he was young on the Asian tour, what has he ever done on the PGA or Euro tour?

I think Biff was referring to their similar sounding names.

He was kicked off the tour. That's a fairly strong indictment.
I haven't followed the deer antler thing closely. Whether it should be outlawed or not is another issue for another day. But if you knowingly take something on the banned list and then act surprised when you get busted, then it only adds to your reputation as a cheater.
And I agree, he's a hard worker and his longevity has been impressive.

He's also suing the PGA Tour because his name was made public for the suspension. And other guys have been suspended for drugs and PEDs and their names didnt become public.

That's where I disagree with Vijay. He essentially outed himself in that magazine article. The PGA kinda bungled it too and just shouldn't have commented on it before ruling, but I don't know how Vijay can maintain that suit when he was talking about the deer antler spray. Which is apparently popular in Asia, though not really heard of here except for Vijay and Ray Lewis. I think they found that the antler spray didn't have enough of the banned ingredient to constitute a violation.

But I still don't get why the PGA still won't announce suspensions. Every other sport does. And everyone knows that guys like Anthony Kim and DJ didn't take time off for the fun of it or because of injuries. And if memory serves correctly, I think the testing they do will pick up some pain killing stuff and blood pressure stuff but doesn't test for HGH. Is that because you can't test for HGH via a urine screen?

BTW, who is this Jon Rahm guy? Finishes 3rd in his 1st pro tourney. Hit the ball well and seemed to have a pretty good short game. Is he the next big thing coming out of the college ranks?

Yea he's really good. Was #1 ranked amateur in the world until he turned pro I believe. He went to ASU and was second all time at the school to college wins behind Phil. Played in the US Open with his amateur status since he had an exemption, turned pro the next week. Dude can crush the ball.

Don't you think there is a name in there the PGA Tour is trying to protect?

Day pulls out of the Olympics....is there going to be anyone left we've heard of once August 11th rolls around?

Evidently not Vijay. And most golf fans know that AK's and DJ's absences were in fact not voluntary. The names we've heard most about with PEDs are Tiger and Annika. But she retired about the time the testing started, and Tiger's absences have all credibly appeared to be either marriage or health related. But you have me intrigued, so do tell.
