2017 Football Recruiting

Could someone link a highlight tape for Creamer here? I tried to search online for highlights but it doesn't look like the kid has any hudl videos and I can't find any anywhere else.

His Hudl highlights all have the private setting now. Odd.

Clearly he's about to verbal and doesn't want anymore coaches offering him. Clearly.

Did we get another commitment last night?

Yeah, looks like Scheier just put up the signal.

Coming from Scheier you'd think that it is someone from his recruiting territory of MD, DC or NoVa.

Interesting that the staff is acknowledging this commit via Twitter. I don't think they tweeted anything for the last couple of commits.

CREAMER?!?!!?

Based off scheier's tweet a few minutes ago, it does sound like it. I wonder who?

I have six recruits on my Board from Scheier's recruiting territory. It's not DT Axel Nyembwe because he just retweeted yet another of the Duke staff's insufferable #DukeGang tweets. The most exciting possibilities would be DE Victor Dimukeje (that would be a fairly big upset over both Duke and Maryland) or DT Jaylen Twyman (who I'd bet has topped the staff's DT board for a while).

It could also be recent offerees WR Max Fisher, DT Derrick Tangelo or CB Coby Davis. Taking Davis at corner would be intriguing given all of the candidates still on the board. Would mean that the staff is very high on him.

Well now the obvious questions start. Did Davis jump in front of Trey Creamer? How about Jamar Richardson and Tre Norwood who both tweeted pictures of their mail from Wake in the last 24 hours? Will Wake go up to 3 cornerbacks?

Will CreamyGoodness jump in front of a bus if the staff turns down Creamer?

The toughest part of projected class size is the uncertainty around greyshirts. Factoring in some estimates of greyshirts, I'm guessing there are 8 spots left. Here's how they might be distributed:

2 WRs
1-2 OLs
1-2 DTs
1 Safety
1-3 Best player available (depending on how many OL and DTs are taken)

Should be interesting to see how the class finishes out.

According to 247, he is 6"1' 180. Adding to the tall CB trend.

Coby is the highest rated player on the commit list by 247 so that is great- time can run out on you and Creamy Goodness turns to Curdled Awfulness.

Davis plays for Maret which is a small private school in DC.

From his video, looks like he has a lot of talent (really strong ball skills), but the level of his HS competition is low.

Welcome, Coby! Looks like a solid get! With all of these 6"1 CB's, one of them is bound to turn into Kevin Johnson, right?

An updated summary of Wake’s commits so far. Likely still 8-9 spots remaining.

Forgive me, as you know/follow this stuff much better than me but why are we so excited about this Davis kid while he's NR by Rivals ?

Not sure where you get the sense that we're "so excited" from the posts on this page.

It looks like his only other P5 offer was UVA. We have strong leads on other maybe more highly-touted CBs, so maybe he felt some pressure to commit. That said, the rankings on him diverge a bit. As you noted, 2* UR on Rivals, but on 247 he's 3* and ranked higher than Creamer in both composite and 247. So, probably a fine long-term prospect, and has the size the staff looks for in CBs.

Anyway, I'm one of those suckers who's pretty much happy to welcome anyone who commits to us.

Football recruiting fascinates me, but it really relies on heavy guesswork, and the Davis recruitment is an example. From his video, clear that the Davis kid is talented (and he has good size), but so hard to tell how his game would translate when he is playing against other athletes as big or bigger or as fast or faster than he is. UVA's and WF's staff saw promise that other staff's either didn't see or never had the opportunity to see as Davis is an off the radar type of recruit. We all feel better about recruits when they are offered by tons of other schools (particularly top 25 schools), but unlike any other sport, many times the best recruits in football are not recruited or even known by other big time schools (Josh Norman being a prime example at the CB spot). We shall see about Coby Davis. Really no tangible reason to be excited about Coby Davis unless you have faith in the staff to find talented kids that other schools can't find.
