NBA Off-season thread: Duncan and Garnett retire

Also as to Carroll and Harris being "close to the max": there's a big difference between overpaying a guy in that role right before the cap is about to jump by 50% (savvy) and paying a guy in that role the actual max after the cap has made 2/3 of that jump (stupid).

Something to think about for the Sixers is that it's likely Simmons will end up being the SF. Embiid/Okafor at Center until one gets traded. Noel/Saric at PF.

A 6'10 Simmons at SF can post up almost anyone and pass out of the post.

Something to think long and hard about.

Let's put it this way, Barnes on the Clippers last year doesn't get them a championship. He's an average defender. Similar low usage wings (Middleton and Crowder) have outperformed him, and when you look at other advanced metrics that are less usage dependent he sucks there too.

I understand why he's going to get overpaid this summer. The potential is clearly there and he has shown flashes but I think it's just as likely that the Warriors system is propping him up as it is that the system is holding him back. Also 24 isn't that young, most players have reached or are pretty close to their peak by age 24.

If Barnes ends up being Gay, Parsons, or even Middleton then we will look back in three years and say "yeah he was overpaid but that was a crazy summer." If he ends up just being Harrison Barnes then the 76ers will be taking whatever forward Duke has to offer that year in the top 3.

Since when is Middleton a low usage rate guy? Middleton is 22 USG rate and a top 30 scorer in the NBA, Barnes is 14. Crowder is 17 and shoots way worse. And yes, good point about the max last season not being max now, but those same guys would probably get the max this season too.

Does make sense why the hell the 6ers will want Barnes after drafting Simmons, unless they are subscribing to the PhDeac line of thinking to make Simmons a PG so that they can keep him, and just rolling with a team of all 7 footers.

Also note you have Barnes behind Batum and Marvin, and hoopshype has Barnes as the 12th best dude on the market, batum 13th and Marvin 30th. But Sixers probably best off trading some assets for Russell, getting him outta LA, and throwing a poison pill contract at like Clarskon or Bazemore or Fournier. Barnes doesn't make much sense.

Does fuckin Mozgov getting $65 million take any of the heat off Harrison Barnes here?

Kinda crazy that Durants next full max deal will equal Dwayne Wade's career earnings. And be pretty close to Lebron's career earnings.

Movgoz might be the largest human in the NBA

Blazers use Aminu almost exclusively as a small 4. Similar to Marvin Williams now.

Mozgov is gonna fill the building with horny celebs. I bet he's married to Sandra Bullock by next summer.

I know Parsons puts up good numbers but he's never seemed that good when I've seen him play
