2017 Football Recruiting

94 - do you know if anyone is coming the 27th? I thought the conventional wisdom is that you want to have your top target's last visit.

In the past two cycles (at least) Wake has generally avoided hosting official visits on the last weekend. I'm assuming it will be the same this year. The second weekend is the sweet spot. Very few commits remain uncommitted through the first two weekends because they know that very few schools keep spots open until the last weekend. Some schools schedule official visits with a group of kids on that weekend on a "just in case" basis (in case they have a kid decommit late or miss out on a top target). I think there are questions about how ethical that is.

It works differently for 4-star and 5-star recruits that extend their decisions all the way to NSD.

Wake may have brought Jessie Bates in to visit on that very last weekend. I can't recall for sure. But that was a crazy situation with the surprise decommit by Christian Matthew after his OV to Wake.

Any idea what Avery Showell's list and/or visit schedule looks like? It looks like he should be familiar with Sawvel from MN's recruitment of him.

I'll double check, but I think Wake Rivals is the only source with that info and its premium content over there. Per that site he has two visits remaining.

Did Shenker switch his interest to football after this season?

Before the season. He attended SMSB camp to try to begin to establish himself as a prospect. He wasn't on anyone's radar before that. It may have factored into his decision to transfer to Colquitt County. Not sure about that.

Oh no... Hopefully we get this DC thing finalized so he can start to aggressively pursue Showell.

I'm sure there's been no shortage of activity with Showell. He just had an official visit, and both Clawson and Cohen were in Georgia the last couple days.

If we "traded" Matthew for Bates then that was a helluva deal for us after the fact.

Matthew's stats: 19 tackles, 3 PDs, and an INT

Bates had 25% of Matthew's tackles in interceptions.

There was also Dior Johnson flipping late too. Can't remember which one precipitated bringing Bates on board.

I think they flipped around the same time leaving the class with zero safeties. Probably no way to unravel which led to Bates. I guess it was really both.

Just a little note on Sage. I have watched him play since he was freshman and he has great hands, goes and gets the ball up top, not afraid of contact at all and he delivers in big games. He was better used at East Lincoln than at Lincolnton and has been in big games and played in a great football conference in the SD-7. He will be asset to Wake Forest not only on the field but off as well. This is one great get by Clawson and staff.

I'd be pissed if one of our commits posted that. Thanks Wake for being with me from the beginning...but I'm decommitting and headed to FSU!

Remember that the Temple coaching staff has been redone in the last few months. Maybe what he saw before he isn't seeing now.
