12 civs. 10 maf.

Every civ should be figuring that minus redwing/bym/themselves, that leaves 9 civs / 10 maf. You absolutely let smoove AA with those odds; he is more likely maf than not.

aside from just saying that he's a vanilla civ, why is everyone convinced he is a civ? Full disclosure, he seems like a civ lean to me right now, but I'm not 100% convinced.
