Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

Let me explain to you how this will work out. 6 man highly rated recruiting class is used to satisfy fan base for next year while we continue to stink this year. 2012-2013 season rolls in....

'6 out of our 12 scholarship players are true freshman, we have a tough road ahead as we try to get these young players ready to play'.

Bz is hoping that he can last until 2013-2014 where he actually might have a legitimate chance to put together a solid season. Next two season are going to be rough, you can pretty much count on it.

We have a very nice, exciting recruiting class, but this ship will still be fighting choppy waters in the 12-13 season, you can count on it.

If the coaches do a good job, 12/13 should be a solid season. We will enter it will a very seasoned star and a senior leader who is a solid player. We add a top PG and swing player.

Having Andre building up at Hargrave and more importantly playing with Codi gives us an advantage teams don't get that often.

At the heart of our success will be if Carson can bulk and toughen up.

Also read "solid season" as what it means. It doesn't man challenge for an ACC championship. It means challenging for an NCAA berth.

Unlike with the 2006 class we don't have to have a lot of starter minutes from this group except at PF right away. The center postion is still a major question mark. I still expect to have 2 ships in 2013. One for a shooting guard and another for a post defender/rebounder. I don't see where McClinton fits in at this point. Also, Coach Battle needs to stay with us,he has been key to our recruiting success.

Nice little snippet from the national Scout.com guy in his new story about our class:

Moto especially is a huge get for the Demon Deacons. He is the type of strong athlete that has the versatility to guard multiple positions as well as the toughness to get things done on the offensive end near the rim. Landing Moto over schools such as UCLA, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Florida is a huge coup for Wake Forest.

Not only is Moto a top 60 prospect, but he complements the frontcourt players already in the class for the Demon Decons. Andre Washington, Tyler Cavanaugh, and Devin Thomas are all solid players, but none is the type of explosive athlete who has dominated at a high level like Moto. His toughness will be a welcome addition.

Maybe most importantly, this six man class will give [Redacted] and his staff something tangible to hand their hat on. When the recruiting class rankings are updated next, it is likely that the Deacons will be in the top 10.

Stormz. I think with the signing of Moto, we can assume that the coaching staff sees Roundtree as a SG.

UNC just got 6.10 260 Joel James. TJ Warren maybe NCSt or Unc .

Here's his Rivals list:

Interest Offer Visit Recruited by
North Carolina COMMITTED (10/02/2011) Offered 10/07/2011 Roy Williams, Steve Robinson
Clemson None Offered None
Florida None None
Florida State None Offered None
Louisville None None
Massachusetts None Offered None
Miami (FL) None Offered None
North Carolina State None None Orlando Early
Ohio State None None
South Carolina None Offered None
UCF None Offered None

He didn't get a lot of top offers and is only #61 there.

Decent get but not typical blue chip for Carowhina.

Right, UNC had missed on a number of big men. McGary could go to Duke though.

Alex Polyness (sp?) who Duke and Vandy were targeting committed to KY.

It seems silly, but I do think there's a big difference between a 5 man class and a 6 man class. Actually, the big difference is found in the next class, 1 versus 2. I guess I just don't like being in a situation where you're almost hoping someone leaves the program.

Maybe 2013 isn't as good as 2012.

I usually don't like six man classes, but we had lots of problems right now and 2012 is a very, very deep class.

Unc could come back to the pack after this season.K.Marshall,DStickland,J.James.R.Bullock and RMcAdoo as starters with McAdoo likely to leave for NBA.

If Marshall plays the way he did the last ten games, he could have a shot at leaving.

Right, then M.Paige takes over. They are trying to get TJ Warren,Brice Johnson or Rosco Allen in case McAdoo bolts.

In addition to being patronizing, you're once again undercutting our recruits. Please explain to me, using the below logic, why we can't ever give our freshmen the benefit of the doubt.

We have what is going to be, at the very least, a top-15 class with elite recruits at PG, SG, and SF. What makes you think that CMM, for instance, won't be able to have the same impact as, see below, Marcus Paige?

Maybe it gets worse next season. But, neither you nor anybody else knows that, so your opinion is just as uninformed as anybody else.

Y'all realize that it's just as easy to not be negative about everything and to "wait-and-see" as it is to be negative about everything, right?

I hate to break it to you, but I think we know Wake's ceiling as a program, and it's never going to be as high as UNC or Duke's (or with the potential of a program like Florida State or Virginia Tech - given the right recruiting and coaching decisions). Given our recruiting history and coaching luck (seriously, if Skip is the best we've had in the past three decades, then we have a long way to go), I think we can say that much. If you can't find any positive in a huge recruiting class after a horrific season, then I think you might want to start shopping around for a new program to latch on to. I don't know how this off-season could be anymore positive given the circumstances.

Put down the pom-poms, dude. Elite recruits are top-25, McDonald's A-A types, not fringe top 100 players like Rountree.
