NC restaurants that are overrated or overpriced

fify.

I've never been impressed with that place. Save your money and buy fresh seafood to cook yourself.

Word. I am the stereotypical kid who grew up in Eastern NC with my Sanitary and AB Surf Shop t-shirts, but to actually eat seafood there are tons of places I'd rather go. Starting with Willis' Seafood Market in PKS to buy fresh.

I grew up splitting my time at home and at our beach house at Emerald Isle. My friends from home and WFU always wanted to go there, and I'd begrudgingly take them. I can't count the number of times I've been there when I didn't want to. After their first time, they never ask to go back.

Sweet Potatoes in Winston Salem. Talked up so much by some of my friends, and average food every time I've been there.

Angus Barn. I like it, but I can get better steak in Charleston at several places for the same price.

"Breakfast of course" in Winston. Got tricked into going there for a hungover meal. Paid 20 dollars to get gross ass "breakfast" "food" served to me by a woman who had arm pit hair. Shit was nasty.

Agreed. Screw that place. Give me Cagneys any day of the week.

Also, Noma downtown is terrible. Mediocre food at best and pretty limited menu and bad prices.

I think that place shut down a year or two ago.

It reopened I thought. Might be mistaken though.

My junior high football coach loved that place. It was his favorite place in the world to go pack the food in.

Of course he is nearly blind now from diabetes and he probably weighs about 400 pounds, so there is that...

You're right...it was closed for a year and the owners reopened a new restaurant in Pfafftown. It's called the Old Richmond Grill or something like that.

Switching gears to positive comments about a place for a moment.....

Did anyone eat at Ritchie's in downtown Greensboro on McGee Street before it closed? That was my favorite place to eat in Greensboro. Loved the food, the beer, the service & the atmosphere there.

Don't know why it closed, because it was always packed.....but I really hated that.

thats wasnt a positive. it was a negative about a place you liked being closed that used to be open in the 'good ol' days'.

Agree that the Sanitary Seafood Market in Morehead is terrible.

But BOC in W-S has generally been very good, though I admit I've not been there for a few months.

WRT fresh seafood, Sea Products in W-S is actually pretty darn good. Next best in the W-S area is probably the seafood counter at Whole Foods.

In the "Crystal Coast" area, Captain Jim's and, in Beaufort, Fishtowne is are pretty good places to get some good stuff to cook for yourself.

Man, that's confusing! Ritchie's only closed fairly recently...a couple of years ago, maybe. Not the "good old days". Did you ever eat there? Great place. Not that big, really, and you had to climb two flights of stairs to get there....but it was worth it! And if you didn't get there early, you always had to wait for a table. Their "Carolina Blond" beer was one of my favorite micro-brews....and they had the best onion rings I have ever had, along with great sandwiches, salads & pizza. And fantastic service. I think the two brothers who ran it moved on to another business venture. If I'm not mistaken, their sister runs O'Douls on the 2nd floor of that building now.

Was that place in the same building that now has Longshank's Pool Hall on the second floor and the Green Burro on the third floor? Right next to MCoul's Public House?

That "Great" hamburger place in Siler City or Ramseur where they charge you for drink refills.
