Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

The 2013 class will most likely be the next to last piece of evidence we need to confirm that Coach [Redacted] will not be our coach after next season. The 2012-2013 season will likely be the final piece of evidence.

Unless we get multiple Burger Boys, if wee have a bad season, who is coming is irrelevant.

That is not going to happen. I hate to have to say that again, but RW is committed to this project and wants to prove the model will work with Bzz players.

i think this project could work but unfortunately Bzz just doesn't connect with the fans, his players and his "coaching" is not being shown through improvement on the court. the system is not the problem...the coach chosen to front the program is the problem!

The model (read: spin) that RW and Bzz will tell us is that they're going for Top 100-150 guys who are four-year players with high character. Then, when those guys are proven successful, the Top 50 talent will want to come and be a part of our system.

We already had top 50 guys interested in our program.

Ugh, I hate thinking about this shit. Raises my blood pressure so freaking high.

Greg is listed at 6'6. James is listed at 6'9. Not exactly an inch.

Greg is also listed at 165-180. James and Moto are over 210. Travis was listed at about 195-205. Only Tree is as little as 190.

He's just not the player we need. He sounds like a great kid from a great family. If we needed a player at his position or if he could the three and play SG, I'd love to have him.

James was 6'7, 6'7.5 in shoes. You're right: the difference is bulk. Greg will be up to 210 by the time that he would arrive on campus.

As you can see, it's quite common to be in the 6'6-6'8 range and play in the post. You just have to be overly strong or athletic. Jimmy Butler was 6'7, 222 and played a lot of PF for Marquette, Damion James was 6'7, 227 and played PF for TX, Jared Dudley was 6'7 219, Kawhi Leonard, 6'7 220, Chris Wright, 6'7 217 4-yr starting PF/SF at Dayton, etc. etc. etc. These guys are all around 6'6 without shoes...

sorry, just what I hear and I dropped all hopes of him being gone next year cause some folks have to be right

We lost Gill. We lost Stan Robinson head-to-head with Indiana and he was interested in our program. Davon Reed expanded his list by 5 legit schools right when we were recruiting him heaviest. Buzz-fail.

Gill is the one that pisses me off the most. Exactly what we need, from Raleigh, and supposedly could've been ours.

I used listed heights. We don't know Greg is 6'6 without his shoes.

Those guys were also 30-50 pounds heavier than Greg is.

Dude, the point is that it's stupid not to recruit guys when you 1) can't actually recruit elite players at the position 2) don't have players.

Travis and Moto will play PF again this year. It'd be nice to have a few more bodies... It will be next year, as well.

They are SFs. We should be recruiting people to let them play their natural position.

I love Travis, but having him play PF hurts us at two positions. He will be abused inside by opponents' PFs versus having a big advantage over SFs.

We need players but not totally redundant ones. Especially not totally redundant ones whose stock is plummeting. Greg is out of the Top 100 on Rivals as well.

I'd rather keep the scholarship and find a player we need.

To each his own, I suppose.

We can't afford to have players playing their natural positions because our head coach can't do his job and recruit a big man. He couldn't even get a mediocre Bosnian wannabe-felon to buy-in to this sh*tshow. We'll get abused inside anyway. How many freshmen big men can play a lick of defense, anyway? (...and no, Ty Walker apologists, defense is more than blocked shots...)

At this stage, we need the tallest human beings that we can possibly find.

warak, several here have reported is that shooting the 3 is Greg's weakness.

Strickland, there's another reason I don't want another SF. One or more of them will leave. If you have a constant revolving door, you won't get as many of the players you want.

...but since we already have a "constant revolving door," which will continue due to revolve given the realities of a 7-man class...
