Most of his reasons for switching are also complete shit which probably is on purpose to sell even more books to people he was putting off before.
Not sure yet, I need to read my new NC hiking book at lunch and maybe choose a place. Trying to get the friendman to pick since he's, ya know, ever backpacked before, but he's not being decisive. I'm not sure what a good number of miles in a day is going to be. 10? 15? 20? I've never carried that much stuff on my back so I don't have a good understanding of how much that'll slow/tire me compared to just hiking with a daypack. Longest hike I've ever done is ~14 miles, since trail marathons don't count as a hike.
Plan for 8 - 12 miles with a stretch goal of 14-18 if you're feeling good. Terrain and fitness will be big factors in determining daily mileage.
lol 12 miles for a total n00b backpacker is going to be devastating
Depending on terrain / pack weight it's doable.
wait really? no more in Carrboro?
Yeah, this is a federal thing. They dodged the bullet of the legislature (which probably would have just been some restrictions/regulations) but got nailed by BIG GOVERNMENT. The DEA is putting it on two years probation starting tonight at midnight -- Schedule I right up there with H and marijuana.
10-12 is a solid day w/ backpacking weight (since you're in shape - otherwise I'd say less).
I was hit by a car on my way in to work this morning; this is all a much smoother process when the driver actually stops and provides insurance information.
Bike is ok this time, but my butt/lower back is not pleased with the situation.
that sucks. I enjoyed the smack tea.
So how did you get hit? Car turn into you?

If all you carry is a water bottle, and don't ever hike, I'd keep it 8-10. You're in good shape right? Maybe 12
