Collins to test NBA, update: he has signed an agent, per Jeff Goodman

Like what Cam and Duke said about staying. Sometimes guys want to finish what they start. John could help take Wake to a new level and improve his game and draft stock. Might be worth it to see your name in the rafters FOREVER

Eh if either of those dudes were top 20 picks they'd be gone

Much easier to improve your draft stock in football with an extra year

Football also has a lot bigger risk of a serious injury though.

Would you give up about 6-8% of your professional life and risk not being about to do your dream job just for that?

Who are some examples of draft prospects who went back and suffered a career threatening injury?

It's a different time. It's not the same.

You didn't answer the question. Would you take the chance that you didn't get to live the dream you could live for what you are asking him to do?

You're convinced we will know how to play defense next year?

Latimore, right?

Guy from ND got hurt in a bowl I think and ended up much later in draft. Not the same thing of course.

Who are those stupid college grads that take a year off and travel Europe? Seems insane when you have no money to bum around Europe before you have a real job. Insane I say, how can they give up a year of salary?

Are you really comparing a kid as an undergrad making a fraction of the salary a professional athlete makes?

So we all pretty much go to college to prepare ourselves for the real world and to get a job. That is what JC has been doing in his first 2 years and has really done it well. If one of our kids was a techie guru and after their sophomore year, they had developed some software that was so impressive that IBM came knocking on their door, offering say a $6.1 million contract for 3 years, would you not recommend them to go for it?

Marcus Lattimore. I was at the game against Tennessee that he went down with his 2nd knee injury, thus ending his college career. Left after his junior year & was drafted in the 4th round by the SF 49ers. Took 2 years and still couldn't play because of the knee so he collected on the insurance policy.

Examples. S. Plural.

Examples. S. Plural.

Harry Giles who could have not played this season, just worked out and been better in the draft by sitting. Instead he got hurt again in early practice and had to have surgery on his knee, thus lowering his draft status.

Jake Butt, Michigan tight end tearing up his knee in this year's Orange Bowl, making a great argument for exactly why Stanford's McCaffery passed up his bowl game.

Jaylon Smith, Notre Dame, hurt in his bowl game and went from being in the Top 5 of the draft in 2016 to being in the 2nd round. Cost him millions--He went from $20 mill guaranteed to $4.42 mill.

So that is plurals

That was over 30 years ago. It's a different world today.

Plus John needs to look at the relative strengths of the next two drafts at his position. Although this year's draft is much stronger and deeper overall, there aren't that many bigs at the top of it. Also, Robert Williams is allegedly staying for his soph year at TXA&M. This moves John up a slot this year and gives him additional competition for next year.

Next year 6 of the Top 11 players on ESPN are bigs, add Williams and Zach Collins to that list and JC will have an easier group this year.

Further, with the addition of Chaundee, John's touches will go down next year. He could improve a lot and have the same numbers with a deeper, more balanced Deacon squad.

I'd love for him to come back and lead the Deacs to being a Top 15 team, but it's not in his best interest on many levels to do so.

No, I would suggest he hold out for a buyout of his IP or drop out of school and start his own company.
